A very poor performance. Firstly and most importantly we were not competitive, Newcastle won all the 50-50 balls, too often we pulled out of tackles. Our midfield balance was awful and Clement has to take responsibility for that. Sanchez may be a neat footballer with tricks but can't tackle to save his life. Also playing Fer in the Sigurdsson role was a complete waste of time. What was the idea of playing 3 men down the right? We were completely unbalanced, Carroll had to play alongside Clucas at times to try and win the ball. Ayew did what he could to get some possession but he was unable completely to form a partnership with Abrahams who missed the best chance of the game but cannot seem to hold onto the ball for more than a second. Lastly our defending of corners is still just as bad as ever, don't they ever practise?

Very poor Phil. Very frustrating watch as you just knew as the game went on Newcastle could get a goal and we never really looked like scoring despite the Abraham chance. Not going to write off Sanches, he's barely been in the country a few days, he's young, low on confidence and needs time. But I was surprised how ineffective the diamond was. It just didn't work and it was puzzling at times at what we were doing or trying to do. Credit to Newcastle, they battled well and stopped us from playing through the middle. We were predictable and kept going down the flanks and our full backs were pretty useless going forward. I can't wait for Bony to get fully up and running because I can't keep watching Abraham trying to hold up the ball, like you said, he's useless at it.

The diamond has worked for us because we have had Britton in the defensive role. Without him we are too wide open especially when the two wide men in the Diamond don't play closer together as that is what happened with Sanchez and Carroll, the middle of the park was wide open.

Spot on Phil. It didn't work at all. God knows how Clement thinks we had the midfield "overload".
