Walter Boyd

Player Background

Walter The Pearl Boyd was capped 60 times for Jamaica and made three substitute appearances in the 1998 World Cup.

Other players in the 1998 World Cup squad included Trevor Sinclair (Man City), Robbie Earle (Wimbledon -retired), Deon Burton (Rotherham).

Hes a tough, controversial player whose antics got him in trouble with former clubs TD and Rene Simoes. Nothing changed when he moved to Swansea!

Hes highly regarded back in his native country and Arnett Garden's website quotes ''Walter is undoubtedly the country's and club's most popular player.''

This was obvious when he got sent off for the Swans after coming on as a late 88th minute substitute against Darlington. It took just 0 seconds for him to get shown a red card, he elbowed a player before the match had even restarted!

Boyd has also played for the Colarado Foxes of the USA A League and hes emerged as the third all time leading scorers for his country.

His time at Swansea:

He was given a free transfer to the Swans in 1999 in the Championship winning season from Jamaican side, Arnett Gardens.

He made an impressive debut against Rotherham at the Vetch, scoring 2 goals in a 2-0 victory.

In total he scored 10 goals in 35 appearances over an 18-month spell with Swansea during John Hollins reign as manager.

He left Swansea at the end of the 2000/2001 season following relegation back to Division 3.

Where is he now?

After leaving in 2001, Walter Boyd returned to his former club, Arnett Gardens and his goal against Hazard United in the final game led them to a second successive league title in 2001/02.

Hes now thought to be playing in the lower leagues in Jamaica but we know he played for Arnett Gardens up until 2004.
