Stuart Roberts

His time at Swansea...

Stuart Roberts came through the trainee ranks at Swansea and made his way into the first team in the 1998/1999 season.

During his first spell with the Swans it was clear to see that with his lightning pace and good skill he had the potential to play at a much higher level.

He was a fans favourite down the Vetch but Tony Petty came in and decided to change all of that. He let 'Super Stu' go for just £100,000 in October 2001 while 6 other players' futures at the club were in the balance.

He scored 4 goals in 37 appearances for Wycombe in his 2-and-a-half year stay with the club.

Brian Flynn brought him back to the Vetch in February 2004 on loan but he didn't look like the player he was before he left in 2001. He still impressed Flynn and signed permanantly a month later.

However, a change of manager in April 2004 meant he had to impress again to secure his future with the Swans. After a disasterous defeat at Rhyl, the squad needed a clear-out which meant the departures of Roberts alongwith legend Roger Freestone. Others who left were: Michael Howard, Jonathan Coates, Lee Fieldwick, Leighton Maxwell, Richard Jones and Karl Connolly.

Where is he now?

After leaving Swansea at the end of the 2003/04 season he dropped out of the Football League and joined Kidderminster Harriers but after just a 1-month spell he moved on to play for Forest Green Rovers until the end of the 04/05 season.

He then moved to his current club, Aberystwyth Town in the League of Wales. He joined in July 2005 and so far he's their second top scorer, with 5 goals in 18 starts.

His brother, Matthew, is also at the club.

Roberts joins another former-Swan at Aberystwyth - Jonathan Coates, another player who we'll be profiling in this section.

Your Views on Stuart Roberts...

''The only time i saw him was when he returned back on loan, i thought he did well for us and caused a lot of problems for the other teams. If he had stayed with us the following season, mixing with the team more, he could have been a much better player for us.'' philmix

''I used to love stuart roberts! one of my best memories of Stuart was him skinning West Ham's left back Julian Dicks in the FA Cup 3rd round in Upton Park, a team who were then flying in the Premership!''
