Marcos Painter

Profile written by Lisa Higgins

Marcos Painter, was a by product of the Birmingham City academy system and made his debut vs Scunthorpe United in the Carling cup. He has had U-21, Under 19 and Under 20 caps for the republic of Ireland.

He was handed a full contract with Birmingham city for the 2005/06 season and he has also had premiership experience with a start vs Fulham. On the 14th November last year he moved to Swansea on loan to cover for Tom Williams who was suffering from a hernia problem. He quickly impressed then manager Kenny Jackett and was handed a months loan extension. An this time moves to try and sign Marcos outright from Birmingham continued in earnest and in the January 2007 transfer window he completed a permanent switch to the liberty stadium for a fee believed to be around £75,000. Marcos has been a regular starter for the Swans since his permanent capture and has proved solid acquisition in the LB position, such a problem for the swans since the departure of Ricketts to hull city for £300,000.

"He has consistently played well in all games. always ready to support attack and has the speed to get back in defence. Although signed as a left back, has also impressed in central defence."

"pros great defence awareness, good tackler, solid. cons:doesn't get forward enough"
Aspaulhill

"a very good signing in my opinion he looks solid at the back and is good competition for tom Williams for that left back position. One thing i have noticed tho is he always has his hands all over the opposition when he challenges for the headers."
Josho

"looks a quality defender, maybe lacks a bit of pace but makes up for that by reading the game well. One of KJ's better signings imo."

Excellent player, solid at the back, consistent and seems to work well and have an understanding with Williams in front of him. Could maybe get forward more though.

i like him, believed to be better at centre half though, maybe he'll develop into that role in a few years time.
