Hull Fan's View: Darryl Duffy
How long have you been a Hull City fan?
I have been a lifelong supporter of the club.
What were your thoughts when Duffy arrived at hull for a then record fee?
Duffy arrived with plenty of promise having scored with good goals to games ration in the Scottish Premier League. We had just signed John Parkin aswell and these two were to be our new front-men. The general consensus was that they would be good signings and Duffy soon proved that with some early goals to his City career. Unfortunately, these soon dried up and he has become a squad player ever since.
What are his weaknesses in his play?
Duffy is very much a confidence player so if he doesn`t find the net early on during his loan spell, he may start to suffer in-front of goal. Duffy also lacks any real physical strength and this means he is easily ushered off the ball, especially if the ball is targeted towards his head.
What are his strengths in his play?
Duffy is very quick and the Scot enjoys playing on the shoulder of the last defender. In the form of Abbott, you may have the ideal front-man partner for him - someone who can hold up the ball and allow Duffy to play off him. Once his confidence is up, he will start to find the net on a regular basis.
Duffy is not a regular for hull what has been the contributing factors in his lack of first team action?
He has simply been out of favour. Other strikers have been perceived as better options and whenever he was given a chance in the first-team due to injuries or suspension, he failed to impress. For him to be effective, he needs a prolonged run in the team and we can`t offer him that at the current time.
What has been his greatest contribution on the pitch?
There hasn`t been too many really. He has netted a few goals but nothing has really stood out apart from a long range volley against Tranmere Rovers in the first round of the League Cup this season. His contribution is usually off the pitch as he is sat on the bench or in the reserves most of the time.
How do you think he will fare at Swansea city?
If he scores early on, he will be a great signing. He did very well at Hartlepool earlier in the season and at League 1 level, he should be a very competent striker. If he finds some early form, he may be the man to fire you into the play-offs, and then who knows…

If you give him the right service, he'll get goals. He's small, quick, with a good touch in front of goal. He'll play very nicely off a bigger player up front, who'll knock the ball into space for him to run onto. Like to play on the shoulder of the defender.
Don't try and use him as a target man, cos he's light. You would also get some decent reviews of him from the hartlepool board, where he was on loan earlier this season.
Apparently has been banging on our manager's door wanting to play every week, always wants to be out there.
Gives 100%, as much as we can tell, as he hasn't been able to get into the Hull side regularly. Hartlepool were mightily impressed with him.
I think you've got a diamond in Duffy. The Championship is possibly just too tough for him, but I think he'll make a great strike partner playing off Trundle. Good luck for the rest of the season.
