Everton Bid Rejected As Sigurdsson Misses USA Tour

Everton Bid Rejected As Sigurdsson Misses USA Tour
Everton have had a £40m bid rejected for Gylfi Sigurdsson on the same day that it was confirmed that he won't be travelling for the US Summer Tour.

The in-demand midfielder featured in Wednesday night's 1-0 defeat at Barnet, coming on as second half captain, but the club confirmed the following day that he wasn't travelling with the rest of the squad for the U.S Summer Tour.

They confirmed the reason why on twitter:

The news was inevitable really, and it has been widely suggested that Sigurdsson is keen on a move, with Everton seemingly front-runners.

The Swans however have insisted that they want their £50m valuation met, and if Everton are serious about their interest in him, then they'll soon return with an improved offer.

An offer just short of the £50m including add-ons would likely tempt the Swans to agree.

Regardless of what the bid value will be, it's a matter of when not if, Sigurdsson leaves for a big-money move this Summer.

Paul Clement said he hopes that Sigurdsson's future will be decided sooner rather than later:

"He's one of our most valuable players - he showed that last season with his goals and assists and was instrumental in in helping us keep our Premier League status - and I've made it very clear I'd like him to stay here.

"The fans want that, our owners would like that, but we also know that there is a business side to things. We had it with Jack Cork; there was no thought over the summer to let Jack go, but a good offer comes in and what else we might do in midfield it becomes a business decision. It might end up being the same with Gylfi.

"But I hope it would be put to bed sooner rather than later. You'd rather not be in a situation where it drags through all of July and even when the season has started. The sooner it is all resolved the better."

Is it a coincidence that he has decided not to travel in the aftermath of that abysmal performance last night? Unless you are a dyed in the wool Swans fan another year of struggle or play for a side with ambition is a no-brainer.

It was always on the cards Dennis, some have been saying all week that there's no chance he'd be on the plane to USA, even if he thrashed barnet 5-0.
