Swansea City Confirm Llorente Signing

Swansea City Confirm Llorente Signing
Swansea City have officially confirmed the signing of Sevilla striker Fernando Llorente, who signs a 2-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Just over a week ago, we reported here that the Swans were closing in on signing the striker, some people laughed of claims we could sign a player of his calibre, but the Swans have sealed the deal - as confirmed here on the official site.

The Swans have finally signed a striker, which was top of their priorities list following the departures of Bafetimbi Gomis (Marseille - season loan), Eder (Lille) and Alberto Paloschi (Atalanta). Llorente, 31 adds a lot of experience to Francesco Guidolin`s squad, having won the Europa League, Serie A, Coppa Italia, World Cup and European Championship during his career with the likes of Juventus, Sevilla and Spain. For his country, he has scored 7 goals in 24 games.

Llorente struggled for goals at Sevilla last season, but we`re hoping he can rediscover his form from the 2013/14 season, when he netted 16 goals in 34 appearances for Juventus. The season after he netted 7 in 31.

The 31 year-old is a tall and strong centre forward, who will help to hold the ball up top and is also excellent in the air. In and around the box he can be a handful for defenders and he could thrive around the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jefferson Montero and Modou Barrow.

The only bad news that could come out of this is Ayew could be allowed to leave for West Ham as a result.

Reports suggest that the Swans want replacements confirmed first before selling him. However, the Swans would still only have one senior striker in the squad, so hopefully they`re serious about their interest in Atletico Madrid striker Borja Baston. The 23 year-old has enjoyed good goalscoring form during loan spells, but has struggled to earn a place in Madrid, and has apparently been told that he can leave the club. Chairman Huw Jenkins will surely see selling Ayew for a fee of £20m or more, and getting Llorente and Baston in at a much lower price as excellent Summer transfer business.
