Swansea City Set For Gomis Boost

Swansea City Set For Gomis Boost
Swansea City manager Garry Monk has confirmed that striker Bafetimbi Gomis returns to training next week and he could make a return at Arsenal on May 11th.

The Frenchman was just starting to hit some form when he suffered a hamstring injury during the 1-1 draw at home against Everton almost a month ago.

He had scored twice in the 3-1 victory against Hull City after scoring at Aston Villa the week before.

His goals had been a long time coming, as he's had plenty of time to find the net since Wilfried Bony's move to Manchester City in January.

His goals had given him a new lease of life and he instantly looked like a different player almost, playing with a swagger and with confidence we hadn't seen before.

Whilst many fans were beginning to give on the striker, if they hadn't already, Gomis is proving his doubters wrong and he was beginning to prove to the supporters that he was good enough to carry on as the club's favourite striker next season.

Garry Monk confirmed:

"Bafe is back in training this week, although hopefully Nelson is not too bad,"

"We will have to assess if Bafe is ready to go back in and start. But it will be good to have him back as we are getting short on bodies. We have had a few injuries.

"But that comes back to adding to the squad. If we`d had a few injuries to some of our consistent performers, we could have been in a very different situation. We must make sure we add quality and depth, while not losing anything."

Nelson Oliveira was forced off the pitch during Saturday's 2-0 home win against Stoke City after an ankle injury, but as Monk says, he's hopeful he won't be out for long.

The Swans haven't had a good run of injuries of late, particularly to their attacking players as Wayne Routledge is also out for the rest of the season, forcing Modou Barrow to return early from his loan at Nottingham Forest.

Marvin Emnes replaced Oliviera against Stoke to play as the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation and performed well, but was given a surprising amount of space from a lethargic side.
