Bartley To Replace Injured Fernandez vs Arsenal?
Various sources say that the defender has not been called up to the Argentina squad for upcoming friendlies due to injury, so it looks like he'll miss Sunday's game at home against Arsenal too.
With Jordi Amat still building up his match fitness after being out of action since the 4-2 defeat at Chelsea in September, Swansea City manager Garry Monk is expected to give Kyle Bartley his first League start of the season against his former club.
Fernandez is improved each game he's played since replacing Jordi Amat and it's fortunate that he's suffered an injury having produced some excellent, consistent performances of late. In particular, he produced a man of the match display at Everton last week to help his side to a goalless draw at Goodison Park.
Bartley has played just 90 minutes of football this season - in the 1-0 home win against Rotherham United in the Capital One Cup 2nd round. That was his first competitive game of football since May, when he played the full 90 minutes in the last League of the season - a 3-1 win at Sunderland.
Monk will also have to replace Jonjo Shelvey who serves his second 1-match ban following his sending off at Everton last Saturday. Tom Carroll is the most likely replacement, while Jay Fulton, who featured for the under-21s win against Charlton on Monday is another option.
