Amat Hopes To Return In 2 Weeks

Amat Hopes To Return In 2 Weeks
Swansea City defender Jordi Amat says he hopes to return to action in two weeks as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

The Spaniard was producing good form at centre back alongside captain Ashley Williams and it was so unfortunate that he picked up an injury during the club's 4-2 defeat at League leaders Chelsea.

Federico Fernandez has benefited though as he has replaced the Spaniard in defence. Despite the fact that the Argentine is a recent World Cup international, manager Garry Monk stuck with Amat and named Fernandez amongst his substitutes before the game at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez has slowly grown into his defensive role at his new club and has shown signs of his international class, with a composed and calm approach at the back.

It seems like its roles reversed for the two players, as now Amat will now have to wait to get his place back in the side, but he's hopeful that he will in the Capital One Cup when Swansea City travel to Liverpool on October 28th.

"I`m getting better every day and I`m feeling good,"

"At the moment I`m just running in straight lines and working on my upper body and legs in the gym. I`m also in the pool doing a lot for cardio work.

"I was glad we had the international break because it means I`ve had more time to recover.

"I`m working hard each day with the staff here and hopefully I`ll be ready to play in around two weeks.

"I`m hoping to train during the week of the Leicester game with the aim of being in contention the following week."

Amat added that he was pleased with his performances so far this season and is feeling confident.

"It was unlucky to have suffered the injury during the challenge with (Eden) Hazard, but that`s how football goes sometimes,"

"The physios here have been great with me because they have shown so much support and they are always encouraging me.

"I`ll be glad to be return to training with the team because you put a lot of hours in at the gym on your own, so it will be nice being around the squad again.

"But now it`s about coming back stronger and with a positive mentality. I was happy with my performances in the first few games and I feel confident in myself."
