Is Kemy Agustien Good Enough For Swansea City?

Is Kemy Agustien Good Enough For Swansea City?
After almost 3 years at a club and a severe lack of appearances to go with it, you have to ask the question - is Kemy Agustien good enough for Swansea City at Premier League level?

I`m struggling to find many reasons to suggest that he is.

The Dutchman looked like a promising ball winning midfielder when he joined up with the squad on trial during a Summer Tour in 2010, but injuries have hindered his progress and have prevented him from earning a regular place in the team.

With a lack of physical midfielders in the team - those that can help to win the ball and win the midfield battle, us fans have often looked to Agustien to be the man to offer the team more muscle, particularly in away games, but his inability to avoid injuries and prove himself at this level continues year on year.

Swansea City have just recently booked their place in the Europa League which would now prompt them to improve the strength in depth and overall quality within the team. I`m not convinced that Agustien is good enough to be one of the fringe players to play in such a tough environment that European football proves to be. Not only that, but he hardly looks like he`ll ever prove to be a decent back-up player for the Premier League either.

I could be wrong, and hopefully I am as Agustien has shown glimpses of potential to be decent player at this level. It`s difficult to rate a player who has been troubled with injuries and has only managed a game here and there in-between spells on the sidelines. It`s also difficult for the player himself to show his true quality, but maybe we never will as time could be running out for the Dutchman.

He has qualities that we really need in midfield - particularly his tackling ability and the added muscle he can add in that position, but it wouldn`t be at all surprising if Michael Laudrup looks elsewhere for that in the Summer transfer window.

Will he move on? Who knows, possibly not yet, but I don`t think he has too long left at the Liberty Stadium.

As you say "It`s difficult to rate a player who has been troubled with injuries and has only managed a game here and there in-between spells on the sidelines." I do feel that we need either him or someone big like him as a back up to Ki. We are short on midfielders who can push back at the likes of Stoke, Everton and West Ham and I'm sure there will be similar clubs we meet in the Europa League. You may be right that he's no long for Swansea but I would be happy to see him stay around next year to have a real chance to prove himself. It has not been a great season for him this year. If he gets more injuries early in the season then we need to move him out as he'll likely prove to be another Bodde - promising Dutchman who's too frail to survive in the English League.
