Bodde Faces Further Surgery On His Knee

Bodde Faces Further Surgery On His Knee
Swansea City midfielder Ferrie Bodde will need further surgery on his knee to keep his hopes of making a comeback alive.

Manager Brendan Rodgers told Wales Online that the Dutchman is still 'not confident or comfortable' with the strength of his knee, and that he is still feeling pain.

Bodde, regarded as one of the best players in the squad, has had a nightmare of knee ligament problems for almost three years, when he suffered an injury in a home game against Birmingham City.

He has failed twice to make a return to first team action and as a result of that, there is major question marks regarding his career, and whether he can ever put his injury problems behind him.

Rodgers explained the current situation:

"The stage of Ferrie`s career we are at now is a critical one because he has been out for a long time and he is still having pain.

"He is not confident or comfortable with the strength of his knee. He had a scan in Bristol on Thursday and then travelled to Holland on Friday with a view to having a slight shaving of his meniscus which is causing a problem for him.

"He doesn`t want anymore surgery on his cruciate which is totally understandable because he knows that would put him out for ten months to a year

"And if he`s out for that length of time then it is a long way back.

"It is a concern. I look back to pre-season and he looked good and strong. But there needs to be stability in his knee which is of a concern. I want to do everything I possibly can for him."

Ferrie Bodde made a very brief appearance in a pre-season friendly this Summer at Port Talbot. Despite playing for only 20 minutes or so, the midfielder showed his class by setting up Craig Beattie's opening goal with a superb through pass.

Rodgers added:

"I could see even in that short period of time - forget the opposition - he made two passes that very few players can even see and then connect with them.

"As a man, I have really sympathy and empathy for his situation."

"There`s obviously a frustration for him because he wants to be out there playing - but he knows he`s not near that yet and the rehab he is doing is not enough.

"There`s something exploratory that we need to find out with his knee and hopefully then we can find a solution after that. If that doesn`t work then we will have to look at the situation."
