Vital Swansea Fan Interviews - Iwan & Kellie

Next up to answer our questions in our Vital Swansea Fan Interviews is Iwan Morgan and Kellie Blackmore.

Anyone and everyone is invited to answer our questions and the more we receive the better.

You can answer our questions via email at swansea@vitalfootball.co.uk or post your answers in the forum thread here

1. We'll have to start at the Play-off Final. Firstly, were you there, and how confident did you feel that Brendan Rodgers and his team would guide us to the win and ultimately promotion to the top flight?

We were there. I was confident we were the better team, and that we would win, the only self doubt was the statistical possibility that in a season 2 wins out of three encounters would be a good result.

2. Not many people would have expected a play-off win last year when Brendan Rodgers first arrived to take over from Paulo Sousa. What were your expectations for last season before it started?

Definitely playoffs.

3. Darren Pratley's future was in doubt for most of the season and he later told that he felt he wasn't wanted, saying chairman Huw Jenkins showed little interest in arranging him a new contract. What are your views on this? Should the club have shown more effort to keep him last year or will we cope without him?

Not party to inside info. Darren`s style of play did not suit our most successful dynamic, i.e. our wingers and Dobbie behind the striker.

Darren was used well though as an impact player later during the game, which was also a good ploy by changing the team dynamic and unsettling the opposition.

If Bodde and Agustien play I don`t feel we`ll miss Darren too much. Darren is a classy player and I hope he does well at Bolton as he has been a good servant for Swansea City.

4. Another player to leave was our number goalkeeper Dorus De Vries. Can you blame him for joining Wolves, a team who have survived relegation in two consecutive seasons, or has he done it just for the money, as he could face a long time on the subs bench?

Dorus seems to be a headstrong personality and I hope he has made a good choice. He possibly has as Wolves are a bigger club than us with more EPL experience than us.

I think Dorus must be confident of playing regularly. If he is better of financially then good luck to him.

5. Neil Taylor looks likely to be the next player to leave. The young left back has frustrated a lot of the fans with his desire to leave after just one season with us. How has your opinion changed on Taylor, would you like him to stay and do you feel a move away could damage his career?

NU are a very big club and 5 years on those wages will set the boy up for life. I can understand why the youngster`s head has been turned.

I am confident our manager can replace him though, but I would like to see us get about 3 mill for him because we will have to pay that to replace him. I don`t feel that he will cut it at that club because they have too much money to bother to develop a player.

6. Angel Rangel and Andrea Orlandi have stayed though which delighted manager Brendan Rodgers after they both signed new contracts. How important do you think this is to the club for the new season?

This is difficult because no-one knows how each player will fare in the EPL. One thing in their favour though is that they are well established in our culture which I feel is very important.

7. Brendan Rodgers has done some work to release the 'dead wood' in the squad as Albert Serran, Cedric Van Der Gun, Jamie Grimes and Kerry Morgan have left. Who else do you think we should get rid of to allow more room for new, better signings?

I was very disappointed to see Cedric go, but at the end of the day you`ve got to back the manager. With regard to people going the only area I feel we may have too many is our strike force. I would especially like the youngsters to be given some play time, Jazz Richards et al.

8. Rodgers' first signing of the Summer was the 3.5m capture of Danny Graham, not surprisingly from his former club Watford. Are you happy with his arrival and are you confident he can be our main goalscorer next season?

It`s an unknown because we`ve got to wait and see if he copes with life in the EPL. Let`s hope he make the transition successfully. One thing I`ll say though is that the manager thinks so and that`s good enough for me.

9. Rodgers says he wants another 3 or 4 new players. Is this enough and in what positions do we need to strengthen in?

ot in midfield unless we get in an 'old head`. It would be nice to get in another EPL standard defender and striker.

10. Swansea had an amazing season last year, one of the best ever, but they still had weaknesses in their play. Can we still be successful if we keep to our attractive style of play. And what weaknesses do we need to improve on to have more of a chance of avoiding relegation?

Our style involved committing defenders in our attack strategy, and this is a potential weakness whoever you are.

The counter attack in the EPL will be like nothing we`ve known before on a week by week basis (i.e. excluding cup meetings with EPL clubs), so I fully expect us to be caught with our trousers down often until we adapt to the EPL culture.

Another weakness [which may now disappear] is the set piece and crosses scenario.

11. What's your prediction for the opening game of the season away at Manchester City?

No brainer - we`ll lose against the richest club in the world at their ground. Traditionally Man City start the season badly at their ground though.

12. And your prediction for where we will finish in the League next year?

If we settle and adapt well and maintain our ethics in between 14th and 16th.

Thanks to Iwan Morgan and Kellie Blackmore for answering our questions.
