Rodgers Could Sign Defender After Monk Injury

Rodgers Could Sign Defender After Monk Injury
Brendan Rodgers says he may to have look at signing a defender after Garry Monk picked up a knee injury in today's FA Cup 4-0 win against Colchester United.

The club captain headed in our opening goal after 25 minutes but moments later he suffered what looked like a serious knee injury after a clash with an opposing player.

The defender limped off and was replaced by Albert Serran. The extent of the injury is unknown as yet until he has scans but there's talk that he could possibly miss the rest of the season.

It comes as a big blow to manager Brendan Rodgers, as he is a vital part of the team as we head into the second half of the Championship season.

'It doesn't look too good,'

'I'm obviously devastated for him if it's a bad injury because he's a wonderful captain for me.'

'To lose him [Monk] going into an important stage of the season would be a massive blow,'

'We would have to do something. Obviously we've got Alan Tate coming back this week which is great for us.

'But we would certainly need to reinforce by bringing in another defender.'

Alan Tate is available again after serving a 3-match ban but Neil Taylor is probably still out injured for another 2-3 weeks.
