Matty Collins attracted the attention of Swindon Town when playing at local level in his home town of Merthyr Tydfil. Swindon added him to their youth ranks and it was there that he caught the eye of Premiership side Fulham FC.

It is understood that then Fulham manager Jean Tigana paid in excess of £100,000 for his services. He had made only 12 reserve appearances for the club last season and has failed to secure a first team place. He has been training with the Swans and has impressed Manager Roberto Martinez. Collins has represented wales at both U17 and U19 Level.

The young Welshman joined the club at the beginning of the 07/08 season but he didn't make a single first team appearance. He had to be content with being a regular in the Reserves.

The following year in the Championship things were slightly better for him. He started the first 2 games of the season, replacing Angel Rangel, but after that, it was again a quiet season for him.

Despite a lack of first team appearances, Collins said he was delighted to sign a new 2-year contract in June 2009.
