Albert Serrán is one of the most promising central defenders produced by the RCD Espanyol's excellent youth system.

Serrán made his Espanyol senior team debut during the 2007-08 season against Racing Santander, but struggled with injury for the rest of it. After the end of the season he was deemed as surplus to requirements at his former club and signed a long-term contract (believed to be a 3-year-deal) with Swansea but but Espanyol do have the first option should Swansea wish to sell in future.

Martinez signed Serran, as well as some of the other Spaniards as one 'for the future' and so far he has struggled to earn himself a regular place in the starting team.

With a change of manager, Serran is now looking to impressive Paulo Sousa as he looks to trim down the squad.
