Swansea started the brighter as they probed a relegation threatened Crewe side. Guillem Bauza went on an early run forward and brushed past his markers but could not unleash a shot. Thomas Butler surged into the box but could not get a shot off but was rewarded with a corner. Swansea City were then awarded a penalty after Dan Woodards with an outstretched leg caught Andy Robinson in the box. Referee Nigel Miller had no hesitation to point to the spot to hand Martinez`s side with an early chance to take the lead. Fresh from international duty Jason Scotland kept his nerve to send Williams the wrong way to send Swansea City 1-0 up within 9 minutes.

The visitors continued to press for a 2 goal cushion as Ferrie Bodde drifted past his markers but his shot sailed wide of Ben Williams`s goal. Crewe had a chance to equalise when Maynard had a shot on Dorus De Vries`s goal but fired wide. Martinez was forced into a change as Dennis Lawrence sustained an injury to his knee and was dully stretchered off with a round of applause from travelling support.

His replacement Alan Tate slotted into the centre of the Swansea defence. Thomas Bulter had a chance to open up the Crewe defence who were over stretched but his shot did not trouble the Railwaymen. Crewe were left shell shocked on 39 minutes as Gary Roberts turned the ball into his own goal from 6 yards out after a hashed clearance. With their backs to the wind Crewe were forced back and were unlucky not to be 3-0 down after a string of shots reigned down on Willaims goal.

Scotland had the last chance of the half but his effort went over the bar. After and enthralling half of football that saw Swansea go into the break 2-0 up the disappointment of the Crewe fans was for all to see; as the Gresty Road faithful booed their side off the field of play.

The game restarted with a frantic pace as Steven Holland`s side had the first chance to mount a comeback after De Vries saved a Byron Moore effort. Scotland had another chance to make it 3-0 after picking up a Bodde pass only to see his shot blocked by Julian Baudet. Crewe won a corner shortly after with Ben Rix launching the ball into the box but Baudet`s connection went over the bar.

Swansea for the first time in the match saw Dorus De Vries`s goal threatened when Ben Rix saw his shot saved by the Dutchaman.Swansea made a change with Thomas Butler coming of for Darren Pratley. The midfielder in his first game after suspension, slotted into the centre of midfield with Britton moving onto the flank. 5 minutes later Jason Scotland was replaced by Fabien Brandy.

Crewe nearly gave themselves a lifeline when Baudet rattling the bar after a Rix corner. It was to be Rix`s last involvement of the game as German Eugene Bopp came onto the field of play.

Crewe secured their lifeline with 8 minutes to go as substitute Bopp curled the ball in from a corner to see Baudet head home from close range. Swansea City were stunned with 1 minute remaining as Tom Pope fired in the equaliser.

Final Score 2-2

After a half time lead of 2-0, how disappointing to throw away 2 points. Were second half substitues necessary?
