Swindon 1-1 Swansea
The County Ground
1st January 2008
Swindon Town ended Swansea City's 6-match winning streak in the League yesterday with a 94th minute penalty to share the points at the County Ground.
Cox converted from the spot in the dying seconds to cancel out Butler's opener on 87 minutes.
Roberto Martinez made some surprising changes to his side. He changed back to a 4-4-2 formation and dropped both Andy Robinson and Leon Britton to the bench. O'Leary replaced Bodde who serves a 5-match ban and Butler and Bauza were also back in the side.
Rangel - Monk - Lawrence - Painter
Anderson - Pratley - O'Leary - Butler
Bauza - Scotland
We were given an early boost in the game as on 19 minutes the referee gave Brian Corr his marching orders for a nasty challenge on Garry Monk.
The Swans had a few half chances on goal but nothing that seriously troubled the goalkeeper.
At the other end, Swindon counter attacked down the left flank but Vincents low cross is straight at Dorus De Vries.
2 minutes before Corr's dismissal, Bauza had a chance hooked clear on the line after lobbing the goalkeeper, the Spaniard is still waiting for his first League goal.
Scotland and Pratley both had shots on goal but again, neither trouble the 'keeper.
In the second half, the Swans needed to push forward and make use of their 1-man advantage. Town held firm though and continued to limit us to half chances.
Martinez made his first change on 51 minutes as Britton replaces Anderson on the right wing.
Moments later and Scotland should have opened the scoring with our best chance yet. Butler crosses but Scotland can only header harmlessly over the bar.
Scotland dissapoints again in front of goal following a good passage of play, the striker again fails to test the keeper.
Straight after missing the target, Scotland is brought off and is replaced by Andy Robinson.
Rangel then gets forward well down the right but his decision to shoot is the wrong one as he misses the target.
The Swans continue to have more of the possession as Swindon try to hang on. We win 3 corners in quick succession but we fail to make use of them.
Guillem Bauza then looked to have finally put us ahead on 75 minutes but the keeper pulls off a superb save, getting down low to palm away his header.
10 minutes later though and we finally break the deadlock as Butler scores. Paynter made a great challenge on Britton when we looked like scoring, but we maintained possession deep in their own half to finally get that vital goal.
However, it didn't prove that vital as it was cancelled out deep into the 4 minutes of injury time. With just seconds remaining, O'Leary was adjudged to have fouled Cox inside the box, he got up to convert the spot kick and the points were shared.
