Despite all their efforts, Roberto Martinez's side couldn't get a goal as Leyton Orient and the Swans played out a 0-0 draw at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.
Orient came here with plenty of confidence it seemed after winning their last 2 games.
Martinez and his side were looking to build on their midweek win at Rotherham and our new boss made a few changes. Duffy, Amankwaah and Lawrence were all missing so Williams returned to left back after a long delay while Painter moved inside to pair up with Izzy in the centre.
Orient showed their confidence from the start as the visitors dominated the early possession.
It took the Swans around 15 minutes to get into the game as Orient had no problem passing the ball amongst themselves as we gave them far too much room to play.
We really should have taken an early lead as Trundle put Craney in an excellent position. He went one on one with the keeper but he dragged his low shot wide of the far post. A pass may well have been the better option as there were players unmarked waiting in the box.
That seemed to be the pattern of our attacking play. We created 4 or 5 superb chances to score from but our finising really let us down.
Trundle showed an improvement today and it seemed as if he's had a boost in confidence all of a sudden. Whether that has something to do with Martinez's arrival, who knows.
His skills were working again, but he seriously needs to pass a lot more instead of going on his own. That was very frustrating as he lost possession throughout the game.
Still, he was creating chances and he nearly helped Iriekpen to a goal but his powerful header went over the bar.
We were continuing to create chances and we definately should have taken a comfortable lead by half time. We didn't, but you always thought we were capable of winning the game in the second half.
We started the second half like we ended the first and continued to attack.
Despite an early 15 minute spell to the game, the players seemed more energetic and eager to regain possession while our passing was far more accurate.
Trundle had 2 more chances to score, he fired a shot into the side netting before missing the best chance of the game. The striker had failed to stay onside a few times previously but he got it right this time, Britton's superb through pass beat Orient's offside trap and Trundle looked certain to score. He also had Abbott alongside him for support, of course he went for goal but he fired his shot straight at the keeper who palmed it away.
The fans were in full voice by this point, something we haven't seen in a while down the Library, er Liberty. Chants like "Swansea Till I Die" and "Martinez's Barmy Army" were sung loud and proud as we tried to encourage the side to get the winning goal.
Time was ticking away and we still were throwing away glorious chances to take all 3 points.
Orient suffered a sending off towards the end as Adam Chambers was shown a second yellow card after a challenge on O'Leary.
Martinez then made a late change, bringing off Williams and replacing him with Tom Butler. The winger made a good start, making some good runs coming inside with a few shots at goal. Gardner put one behind for a corner and from the set piece, Abbott went close but his shot was cleared off the line by Alexander.
Orient did well to hang on for a valuable point to take back to London but the scoreline didn't reflect the game in my view. We had chance after chance to win by a few goals but the signs aer certainly promising for the future under our new manager.
Compared to Jackett, we were far better at attacking. Lately under Kenny, we looked clueless going forward but today we seemed to have a gameplan that the players knew and they stuck to it.
Passes were more accurate but sometimes players like Trundle and Robinson need to pass more often.
