Swansea City signed off a memorable and record-breaking Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace - who finished the year in 10th thanks to Chamakh`s second half winner.

Garry Monk made a number of changes to his starting line-up that could be compared to those he`d make in a cup game. Ashley Williams missed the chance to play in every single League match this season as he and his Welsh international team-mate Neil Taylor were both rested.

Kyle Naughton returned at right back with Angel Rangel also available as backup on the bench. Leon Britton made a rare start alongside Jack Cork in place of Jonjo Shelvey who was missing due to a minor injury and Marvin Emnes replaced Gylfi Sigurdsson.

It was a rare example today of a Swansea City team that struggled to function as a team. Crystal Palace in comparison however with energetic and dynamic and caused problems on the wings with Bolasie and Zaha continuously testing the visiting defence at Selhurst Park.

The Swans however couldn`t get the likes of Montero and Dyer into the game and when they did Palace were effective in limiting their threat.

Emnes has had some space now and again in Palace`s half on the counter but he lacked support with only Gomis as an option, but the Frenchman was always crowded out.

Fabianski was by far the busiest of the two goalkeepers but he wasn`t forced into making many great saves but he had to be constantly on his toes as Pardew`s side were quick to get the ball in and around the penalty area.

Hennessey in the opposite goal however had one of his quietest afternoons in a long time. Jack Cork`s header at the near post from Montero`s corner was the only save he had to make in what was becoming a more and more frustrating match for the Swans to come to grips with.

Creativity was missing in midfield, and it showed just how much they miss the likes of Ki, Shelvey and Sigurdsson through the middle to get the ball into better attacking positions. Jack Cork was busy in midfield - often regaining possession for his side but he needed a driving force forward alongside him as he and Leon Britton are much the same in terms of what they can offer.

The Swans had to step things up in the second half but they still couldn`t find a way of easing the pressure and creating some better moves going forward.

Monk was limited for options and so he only began to make changes after going a goal behind just before the hour mark. A long free kick was headed across the penalty area, Gomis missed a chance to head it clear and the ball fell kindly to the unmarked Chamakh who volleyed it home past Fabianski.

It ended his hopes of securing the Golden Glove award, but it was always likely that Palace would finally get their goal that their attacking endeavour deserved.

Modou Barrow, Matt Grimes and Kenji Gorre all came on later in the second half but despite them all being bright prospects for the future, they weren`t going to inspire a late equaliser.

Grimes looked a confident player despite moving up from League 2 this season and he`ll be hoping to be more involved next season after making a few substitute appearances this year. Gorre deserved his debut off the bench following his goalscoring form to help the under-21s win the play-offs while Barrow is becoming more and more of a close contender for the right wing place as Dyer continues to struggle for consistency.

It might have been a disappointing final day of the season that ended in a defeat, no goals and barely any chances created, but it`s been a memorable and record breaking season that won`t be forgotten.
