Monk Still Unbeaten After Stoke Draw

Garry Monk remains unbeaten as Swansea City head coach following a solid 1-1 draw away at Stoke City.

After a fantastic 3-0 win on Saturday against rivals Cardiff, Swansea City hoped to keep the momentum going but Stoke were always going to be tough opponents, having won their last two home games 2-0.

Monk's side were again full of crisp passing, looked positive from kick off and fought well to win possession both in defence and midfield.

They dominated throughout, but it was the hosts who took the lead as Crouch fed Odemwingie down the right. His low shot hit the post, but it came back to Crouch who could easily fire the ball home from inside the penalty area.

It was unfortunate for the Swans as they looked on top at this stage. The likes of Nathan Dyer and Pablo Hernandez were guilty of taking too many touches inside the box, allowing the hosts to clear the danger before they could get a decent shot on goal.

The second half saw much of the same from Monk's side - good passing and pushing high up the pitch. Compared to Laudrup's side recently, Swansea looked more positive. They played as if they were there to win, not to keep things tight and hope to score and nick the win from the very few chances they created. It was far more pleasing to watch, and while you'd take a point at Stoke, Monk and his players are probably disappointed that they didn't go on to win it after Chico got a deserved equalised early after the restart.

Hernandez's cross was headed back to him, and the Spaniard sent in a good cross that his fellow countryman Chico could flick on and into the far corner of the net.

Wilfried Bony really should have scored his first League away goal, but wasted two great chances. Substitute de Guzman played Dyer through to cross, but Bony's delayed shot was cleared off the line. He had another opportunity but it just wasn't going to be his night in front of goal, as he waits to break his duck away from home.
