Report - Swansea City 2-0 Leicester City

New loan signing Marvin Emnes took less than 5 minutes to score on his debut as the Middlesbrough forward helped Swansea City to their first home win in 3 games against Sven Goran Eriksson's Leicester City side.

The Swans could have been up against former boss Paulo Sousa this weekend, but the Foxes sacked him after a poor start to the Championship campaign.

After two 0-0 draws in the last two home games, Rodgers' side was looking to get back to goalscoring and winning ways at the Liberty Stadium, but they were up against an improved Foxes side who were looking to impress their new boss.



Brendan Rodgers made just one change to the team that held leaders QPR to a draw on Tuesday. David Cotterill was unfortunate to get dropped after missing a penalty, and in came Joe Allen.

Swansea City made a promising start to the game and after a rather pointless and poor shot from Dobbie just inside Leicester's half, he then went close to assisting an early goal. The Scottish striker did well down the right flank and put in a low cross for Nathan Dyer, but he dived to make contact with the ball but he was inches away from finding the vital touch.

Leicester City were struggling with the Swans as they battled away and worked hard to win the ball back whenever they lost it. The visitors had little time in possession and the likes of Dyer and Rangel in particular were forcing them to make mistakes. Dyer forced Greg Cunningham to make one before he played in Dobbie. His cross across the face of goal found Darren Pratley unmarked but he couldn't get a clean contact on the ball and his strike went over the bar.

After being mainly a spectator for the early part of the opening half, Dorus De Vries was called into action a few times but his last save on the stroke of half time was simply superb. Curtis Davies was unmarked and he headered a powerful and direct effort towards goal which looked certain to find the net, but the Dutch goalkeeper pulled off an excellent save from point blank range to keep the scores unchanged at the break.



De Vries' save proved to be a hugely important one, the game could have been much different in the second half had he not kept out Davies' header. The Swans went from nearly going a goal down to going a goal up as Rodgers' made an excellent substitution by taking off Dobbie and giving Marvin Emnes his debut. The young winger, who was playing up front, took less than 5 minutes to make the big impact we needed as he gave us the lead. Darren Pratley lobbed a lovely pass over the defenders and through to Emnes, and he raced onto the ball before volleying it home.

Leicester showed a slight improvement in the second half and they were battling well in the middle third, but they still weren't forcing De Vries into any difficult saves. To combat this, Rodgers made his second sub and gave another player his debut - former trialist Kemy Agustien and he helped to give us a more physical presence in midfield.



Scott Sinclair was having another quiet game by his standards. He saw a long range shot fly wide and very high into the stands but he went closer with his second effort. Angel Rangel found the winger unmarked inside the box, and you would have bet your last penny on him scoring, but his strike hit the underside of the bar.

Matt Oakley went close to netting an unlikely equaliser for the Foxes, but his low strike from a free kick was well saved by De Vries.

The Swans' small 1-goal lead was looking pretty safe as injury time came and for the 15-20 minutes we looked to protect our advantage, rather than go looking to double it. However, as Leicester threw men forward to get an equaliser, it gave us more space on the counter attack and late on we killed the game off with a second goal. Pratley and Emnes were again involved in the build up. Pratley passed it out wide to the loanee and he did well to beat a player at the by-line before finding Sinclair in the box who found the net from close range.



Swansea City were back to their impressive best against Leicester City and the win puts us up into 3rd and right now there's no reason to suggest why we can't keep competing in the top 6.
