Sabadell 1 - Swansea City 2

Sabadell

27th July 2009

Attendance:

Report - Sabadell 1-2 Swansea City

Paulo Sousa fielded a different starting eleven for the second match of the evening against Sabadell.

There was a change of formation as we lined up in a 4-5-1:

Cornell
Collins - Monk - Fernando - Bessone
Thomas - Evans - Lopez - Macdonald -Morgan
Dobbie

After just 4 minutes, Garry Monk made a costly error to gift the home side the early lead. The skipper was too casual at the back, lost possesion, the ball was squared across the box and it was a simple finish to slot the ball past Cornell.

4 minutes later, the Swans responded well as we got our first chance of the game and we took it as Dobbie fired in a low shot into the bottom left hand corner to put the scores level again.

Shortly after scoring his first goal since signing this Summer, Dobbie doubled our advantage with a stunning strike. The former Queen of the South frontman certainly had his shooting boots on tonight as it really was a top class finish. Trialist Fernando sent a long pass over to Casey Thomas on the right. The ball was lobbed through to the Scot and he volleyed home an unstoppable shot into the far corner.

Sabadell responded as they looked for an equalizer after throwing away their lead. A shot flew just over from long range, beating Cornell but not the bar.

Despite only joining up with the squad in the last week, new midfield signing Jordi Lopez bedded in quickly with the team, showing quick and accurate passing throughout his playing time in his native Spain. He was often talking to his team mates around him in the final game and he showed good leadership skills.

Palamos ended the game the better side with a few decent chances in the final 5 minutes. Cornell was first forced into making a save from around 18 yards before having their best chance to force another penalty shoot out. The Spanish side were given too much room in the box, their player couldn't get a shot at goal and his team mate, with bags of space in the box, was let down by a poor pass and we held on for the win.
