Swansea City ended their season with a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Blackpool at the Liberty Stadium.
Roberto Martinez left out a number of first team players including Nathan Dyer and Darren Pratley while defensive duo Angel Rangel and Garry Monk missed out due to injury.
Leon Britton's error in his own half gave the Seasiders their winning goal. DJ Campbell capitalized on the midfielder's mistake to curl the ball home into the right corner.
The Swans started the game quite well, we kicked off towards the away end and within 3 or 4 minutes Butler and Scotland had shots on goal. Butler was probably our biggest threat down the left wing in the first 15 minutes, but then again there wasn't much of an end product from the Irishman.
Despite the fact that we made the brighter start, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock - scoring the only goal of the game.
Typical Swans, we played the ball out from a goal-kick short to Leon Britton, his first touch was poor, DJ Campbell dispossessed him and ran towards goal before curling the ball into the right corner.
We went looking for an immediate response to the Seasider's opener, and while we played the ball around nicely at times, there was no end product and certainly nothing for the visiting keeper to do in the first half.
Swansea City dominated most of the first half possession, but with little threat on the away goal, Blackpool were by far the happier side going in at the break.
At the restart, Roberto Martinez made a change and brought off Leon Britton, replacing him with 19 year-old Joe Allen.
Britton had a rare off day, he's likely to win Vital Swansea's vote for Player of the Season but today his error led to the opening goal.
Joe Allen was an improvement, he was better in possession but still no one could inspire anything creative in and around the penalty box.
Jason Scotland looked a country mile away from being a £2million player as his first touch and close control were severely lacking.
Andrea Orlandi was given another opportunity to prove his worth and to earn himself a contract renewal in June. He showed some good skill at times but offered little threat down the right, just like Butler on the opposite flank.
Martinez made another change on the hour mark, boosting our attacking options by replacing Shaun MacDonald will striker Gorka Pintado.
Jason Scotland got his first shot at goal minutes later, it was a fierce low strike with his left boot but it was a straightforward save for Rachubka.
With 10 minutes left, Gower was our final sub and he replaced left back Fede Bessone. Moments later, we had a big shout for a penalty as Gomez was brought down in the box, but our appeals for a spot-kick were ignored by the referee.
At the other end, it looked like Blackpool were going to get a spot-kick for a chance to confirm their win. A challenge was made and while it looked like it was in the box, luckily the ref awarded a free-kick just outside.
Our best 2 chances then came with just a few minutes of injury time remaining. A shot was deflected which the keeper did well to save, there was also a goal-mouth scramble following a corner but the Seasiders held on for victory.
The visiting side did well tactically in the first half. They didn't enjoy much of the possession throughout the game but their crowded us out in the second half and made it very difficult for us to break them down and get a clear shot on goal.
We can't have too many complaints though. It's been a fantastic season following last year's promotion from League One. Our aim was to simply avoid relegation and we've bettered that immensely by going close to securing a play-off place- something Cardiff City failed to achieve as well thanks to them losing today and Preston winning!
