Swansea City had to survive a late scare after Chester City mounted a late comeback to level the game with 5 minutes remaining but Marcos Painter sunk the hopes of the Seals coming away with a pre season draw.
After leaving Swansea City in a blaze of controversy in 2006 Swans manager Roberto Martinez made an instant impression at the Cheshire club which settles directly on the Welsh/English border. Seals fans have not forgotten the stability the player turned manager brought to the club and some have even gone so far as attributing the loss of the influential midfielder for their poor form in the later part of the 2006/07 season.
Swansea will be without last seasons top goal scorer Jason Scotland and right back Angel Rangel as both players continue to recover from injury. Martinez himself is relishing returning to his former club and believes that Chester will provide a different sort of test for his championship squad as the likes of Jordi Gomez , Gorka Pintado and Federico Bessone face for the first time league opposition.
Swansea City Line Up first half
De Vries, Collins, Bessone, Monk , Williams, MacDonald, Gomez, Pratley, Orlandi, Brandy, Pintado
It would be Swansea City who would take the early lead thanks to 7th minute Darren Pratley strike after the midfielder combined with right back Matty Collins. An injury to Gorka Pintado with just 22 minutes gone forced Martinez to make his first substitution of the game bringing on new signing Stefan Morrison for the Spaniard. Morrison did not have to wait long to get on the score sheet after picking up a pass from Shaun McDonald to fire Swansea into a 2-0 lead just before half time.
Half Time Score: Chester City 0-2 Swansea City
Midfielder Jay Harris pulls a goal back for Chester, moments later the Everton Academy product leveled the scoring. Immediately Swansea grabbed a winner after Marcos Painter buried his shot past the Chester keeper.
Full Time Score:Chester City 2-3 Swansea City.
