Swansea City 1 - Yeovil Town 2

Liberty Stadium

19th April

Attendance: 18,321

Swansea 1-2 Yeovil

Swansea City have been crowned leauge one champions despite losing 2-1 at home to Yeovil Town.

News had been filtering in from Brunton Park that Carlisle United had lost by the same margin against an in form Southend United pushing hard for promotion as the season draws to its close.

In front of a bumper packed Liberty Stadium the champions elect found themselves 1-0 down on 24 minutes when Marvin Williams got the better of Kevin Austin near the touchline to fire in a cross , no one in a white shirt could clear the danger but Glovers veteran Terry Skiverton headed home at close range to send the 300 plus Yeovil fans into rapturous applause.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side on 59 minutes as Aiden Downes from just outside the Swansea penalty area dispatched a shot low past Dorus De Vries. Not giving up the fight Roberto Martinez switched things around bringing on Paul Anderson and Guillem Bauza for Thomas Butler and Kevin Austin.

It would be Andy Robinson who would give the leauge one leaders a lifeline when he picked up a loose ball in the box to fire into the bottom right hand corner.

Yeovil stood their ground and with just five minutes to go Anthony Barry wasted a golden chance to put the game beyond Swansea but lost his composure and fired wide of De Vries goal.

Despite the loss Swansea have been crowned leauge one champions with two games remaining.
