Swansea City 2 - Swindon Town 1

Re/Max Stadium

27th Febuary

Attendance:

Swansea City 2-1 Swindon

Swansea City firmly put behind them the 5-1 losses to Bristol City and Bristol Rovers with a 2-1 win over Swindon Town this evening.

With 10 minutes gone the highly impressive Kerry Morgan opened the scoring after picking up the ball just outside the box , Morgan held off his marker to send the ball past Mark Scott into the bottom right hand corner.

Swindon and Swansea continued to press for a second goal but it was to be the visitors who were to equalise throught Mosses Ashikodi. The powerhouse striker made the most of a defensive lapse from Karl Keogh to fire the ball past a helpless David Knight. Morgan had the opportunity to give Swansea the lead when he shrugged off Lloyd Macklin and unleashed a shot on the Swindon goal only to see his shot saved by Scott. Moments later Dion Chambers fired Swansea into a deserved 2-1 lead as his well placed shot sailed past Scott.

Swindon stepped up the pace looking to draw level and nearly scored thought Ashokodi as the striker took advantage of a defensive lapse by Karl Keogh to go one on one with David Knight. The youngster recovered well to track back and got a vital challenge in to deny the Watford loanee. Half Time Score 2-1

The second half started in the same vain as the end of the first.Swansea were to carve out the first real chance of the half as Captain Matty Collins threaded a lovely ball through to the vastly impressive Kerry Morgan but the former Port Talbot loanee saw his shot saved a Scott's near post.

Swansea continued to press and were unlucky not to extend their lead after Dion Chambers found space on the flank to whip in a dangerous cross into the penalty area where Kerry Morgan headed goal wards but straight to Mark Scott.

Referee Wayne Tregonning was to deny Swindon an Equaliser as again Ashikondi found space in the box to fire past Knight but linesman Kim Fisher ruled the Striker had been offside. Mr Tregonning was to deny Swansea a penalty after Kerry Morgan burst into the box only to be sent sprawling by Scott as the Merthyr official waved on the lukewarm appeals. Soefiene Zaaboub had the chance to trouble Swansea after latching onto a cross but Knight was alert to his threat. Final Score Swansea City 2-1 Swindon Town

Vital Swansea member Neath_Jack saw tonight's game and reported on our forum:

Played a 4-5-1 with Matthew Wright as a lone striker.

Decent game down at the Remax tonight, with Kerry Morgan and Dion Chambers scoring our goals. The first came within the first 10 minutes - Kerry Morgan scoring an outstanding solo goal, running past 4 or 5 Swindon defenders before slotting home from a tight angle.

Swindon equalised with a Moses Ashikodi goal, before Chambers finished off a superb move.

Performances of note - Scott Evans in the holding midfield role - thought he was excellent - as was Kerry Morgan on the left wing.

Chris Jones had a decent game, but the general consensus in the stands is that he has gone a little backwards over the past few months - I thought he did ok though.

Joe Allen - Game sort of passed him by in the first half, 2nd half he was better, got into the game more but he needs to step it up a bit.

Except for a couple of players, the squad was mainly the Youth Team. A good result for them.
