Swansea City Reserves 1 - Bristol City Reserves 5

Remax Stadium Port Talbot

13th Febuary

Attendance:

Swansea 1-5 Bristol Rovers

Swansea City reserves were handed a footballing lesson against a resolute and organised Bristol Rovers. In his second game back from injury Darren Way secured another full 90 minutes.

Swansea went behind on 28 minutes as Charlie Clough latched onto a loose ball in the box to fire coolly past David Knight.Chris Jones had the chance to level when he picked up a loose ball outside of the Rovers penalty box but saw his shot fire past Michael Green in the Rovers goal.Out of form Striker Darryl Duffy equalised in 43 minutes as he kept his nerve to fire past Green.

Rovers continued the pressure after the restart probing for the lead with Charlie Recce and Lewis Haladane spurring the charge. It was not until the 72nd minute Rovers got the ahead which they rightly deserved. Towering over his marker Charlie Clough headed home from 5 yards out past a stranded Knight. Chris Jones was lucky not to sustain serious damage as a rovers player pushed him into the advertising hoardings much to the protestations of the Swansea bench and support for a card to be shown by referee Dean John.

Swansea then were undone by another display of bad defending when Josh Klien Davies slotted home past Knight. Two goals deep into time added on from Matthew Groves and Charlie Recce consigned Swansea Reserves to a humbling 5-1 loss in front of Roberto Martinez and Huw Jenkins.

Player Ratings

David Knight: 7 Saved a few shots but was prone to spilling them before reclaiming the ball was not helped by the defence
Kevin Amankwaah: 6 Did ok last night but still gave a away a lot of possession comparable for not picking up his marker.
Scott Evans: 6.5 did ok nothing spectacular
Kristian O Leary 6 : Poor performance gave away to much possession not composed enough
Kyle Graves: 6 average performance Rovers got the better of him has time to develop
Matty Collins7: The Cog at the back tried to get the ball forward and push out but no support stunted his efforts.
Darren Way 7 : Always looking to get involved fitness let him down in the final 15 minutes looked to get the attacking game going
Owain Tudur Jones: 6 Disappointing performance could not use his height advantage and was well short of challenging for a place in the first team. Substituted at half time was well off the pace.
Chris Jones:6 average performance , first touches let him down did not look a threat
Shaun McDonald 7.5 swansea MOM quick sharp alert always looking to get forward.
Darryl Duffy:6 Good goal but a few flashes of brilliance more or less anonymous

what a disappointment, at least way played the full 90 minutes.

This result shows that we really do not have a strong squad.

The positives: Way played another 90 minutes, and Duffy managed to score, hopefully we will see both players use this game to their advantage.

He played the first half.

Best players scoring 7 were Knight, Collins and Way with MOM McDonald. The latter was on the bench against Walsall but was not used. Forgotten man at the moment is Collins, who I hope wll get some 10/15 minutes in a game before the end of the season.
