Swansea City could take a massive step forward to the push towards the Championship at Doncaster Rovers tomorrow evening.
Should Roberto Martinez's side win against 4th placed Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium , the Liberty Stadium outfit could go into a 10 point lead at the top of league one ahead of the crunch clash at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.
Sean O'Driscoll 's side have been one of the most consistent performers in the league in recent weeks and have not lost at home since the 16th December in the 2-1 lost to Yeovil Town. Fans will have to trace back to September 22nd to find the last away loss on the road . Leeds United 's 2-0 win over Swansea City at Elland Road marked that milestone.
The clash against Doncaster Rovers could prove the pivotal moment in the promotion push. A win for the league one leaders would pill the pressure on the promotion chasing pack. Away form has been the difference to Martinez's side; after years of not picking up points on the road has contributed to the inability of Swansea to secure automatic promotion and led to the side having to go through the lottery of the play off's.
Doncaster on the other hand have seen their fortunes turn in recent seasons from a mid table side into realistic promotion contenders. The evolution of football at the South Yorkshire club has been a truly exiting brand to watch and has been running in parallel with Swansea City.
Promotion isn't won at the end of January but who ever is the victor in this mammoth clash at the Keepmoat would have secured pole position in the race for a place in the 2nd tier of British football.
Doncaster Rovers Chairman John Ryan on the push for Attendance at the game:
''I want to see a 10,000 plus crowd. Swansea are top of the league and we are flying high in fourth place.' |
Gordon Greer is out of the fixture after going under the knife on a hip cartilage tear. Former Swan Jason Price has just returned to full training following a Knee injury. Former Bournemouth striker Brian Stock is out of the game with a stomach upset. Striker Paul Heffernan could also be out of the clash.
Rovers Top Scorer
Former Salisbury striker James Hayter will be a marked man come tomorrow evening as Swansea look to push further ahead at the top of league one.Hayter's cool finishing could cause problems for the Swansea defence. With 10 goals so far this season Roberto Martinez will have certainly taken note of his considerable threat. Prolific throughout his career Doncaster will need him to be on top form as they push for promotion. |
Andrea Orlandi is out of the fixture after sustaining medial ligament damage to his knee ; following the 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy southern section semi final.
Darren Pratley is also a major doubt ahead of his 2 match suspention. The influential midfeilder has sustained a slight hamstring tear in the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday evenign.
Darren Way and Owain Tudur Jones are still sidlined.
Diminutive Midfield maestro :
Swansea City 's no 7 Leon Britton has taken a little time to get used to his new central role but in the last month he has come on in is firmly the Swansea player in form. His dogged determination , pace and trickery will be vital against a resolute Doncaster side packed full of talent. Britton who has firmly established himself in the heart of the midfield trio turned in a Man Of The Match performance against a uninspired Crewe side on Tuesday much to the delight of the Swansea support in The Liberty Stadium. |
