Roberto Martinez will be hoping to continue Swansea City's fine run of form in 2008 as the travel up the M4 , to face Swindon Town at the County Ground on New Years Day.
Despite being down to 10 men the league one leaders brushed aside a lacklustre Leeds United who suffered a 3-2 loss against the South Wales club.
In a game that had everything Swansea dominated a fractious affair which threatened to boil over with the dismissal of Ferrie Bodde after stamping on Jonathan Howson.
Swindon warmed up for their first league fixture of the year with a 2-2 draw against struggling Bournemouth still facing a relegation battle. Two goals from Barry Corr shared the spoils at Dean Court despite going behind in the 78th minute strike courtesy of Welsh U-21 international Sam Vokes
Swindon Town will be hoping to ruin Swansea's league one party with a win at the County Ground as the club look to mount a challenge to secure a play off berth.
Martinez however will need no invitation to spoil The Robins party as the Wiltshire club have seen a upturn in form after securing 7 points out of a possible 9 to cement their position in mid table.
Caretaker manager Ady Williams is relishing the prospect of facing an on form Swansea side who have scored 13 goals in 4 games .
With games in hand another 3 points away from home will put even more pressure on the chasing pack.
Robins Caretaker Manager Ady Williams :
"'We will go into that game unbeaten in three. Swansea will bring a few thousand fans to the County Ground and that's an easy game to get up for.'" |
Cardiff Born Striker Christian Roberts has failed his race for fitness after not overcoming a Knee injury.
Robins goalkeeper Phil Smith is out with a hernia problem.
The Robins Hot Shot:
Simon Cox will return to his loan club Reading after the clash with Swansea City but the young striker hopes to end his spell at The County Ground with a win over the league one table toppers.20 year old Cox is the Wiltshire outfits top scorer and has been influential in securing vital wins to see the club establish themselves in mid table. Hard working and consistent the striker will pose a threat to the heart of the Swansea defense. The striker has also been part of Readings 1-0 Peace Cup win over Ligue 1 champions Olympique Lyonnais in pre season. |
Swansea will be without Ferrie Bodde as he starts his 5 match ban following his red card in the 3-2 win over Leeds United last week.
Owain Tudur Jones is a few weeks off fitness.
Swansea's Industrious Midfielder:
With 3 goals in 2 games Midfielder Andy Robinson has been one of the pivotal players in Swansea City's meteoric rise to the top of league one.His ability two draw defenders and pop up with a vital goal could see the former Tranmere player go into double figures for the season. Robinson has bags of skill and should Swindon concede free kicks around the area the scouser will punish them. |
