Swansea were unlucky not to claim all three points away at Rotherham last weekend as Conlon grabbed a last minute equaliser, we face another tough match at home as the in-form Chesterfield are the visitors on Saturday.
We play our first match in the recently renamed “Liberty Stadium” and Kenny Jackett received a boost this week with the news that he has a full squad available to choose from.
Roberto Martinez, Swansea skipper:
Martinez says we must win the game: ''Everyone is looking at each other in the division at the moment - each week you look at the Huddersfield result, the Southend result, the Barnsley result and so on.
''Everyone is trying to work everyone else out and that's why it's so important for us to win tomorrow.
''The last three games have been disappointing for us points-wise and this is a great chance for us to send a message to the other teams in the league.''
Kenny Jackett, Swansea manager:
'We expect Andy to be fit after what was a straightforward dead leg,' said Jackett.
'And we also have fingers crossed for Garry, who looks to be getting over his calf problem.'
Roy McFarland, Chesterfield Manager:
Southend and Swansea have both had tremendous starts and have been the surprise packages so far this season. They have the boy Trundle who seems to be scoring for fun, so it won't be easy and it will be a really good test against a side that's full of confidence but so are we.
Reuben Hazell, Chesterfield defender:
'At the start of the week we said that we had three big games,' Hazell said.
'We have got six points so far and it will be tough to make it nine but we are on a bit of roll.'
More players returned from injury again this week and we now have a full squad for Jackett to choose from.
Andy Robinson and Garry Monk are both back and although the chances of starting are slim, they’ll certainly provide some strength in depth if things need to be changed during the game.
Despite having all 24 players fit, we could well see an unchanged side to the one that played at Rotherham last Saturday.
Bayo and Trundle are certain to partner each other up with Martinez and Bean behind them in the centre of midfield with Britton and McLeod either side.
It was surprising to see Monk dropped prior to his injury and has since to make it back into the starting line up. After recently returning, he’s unlikely to start ahead of Izzy and Austin.
Kenny will also have decisions to make on the 5 who make it to the bench! Tudur-Jones, Monk, Goodfellow, O’Leary, Connor, Robinson and Forbes will all be competing for a place.
Following the news, Jackett said: ‘’There may a couple of big players who don't even make the 16 on Saturday, but that's the way it has to be if you want to be successful.’’
Only time he is unlikely to feature here is when he’s injured or suspended! Can create something out of nothing and has scored 11 goals already this season. We found it difficult to produce a good goal opportunity at home against Blackpool but Trundle volleyed home a superb effort from 18 yards out. He also put us level at Rotherham last Saturday straight after going 1-0 down.
Confidence in the Chesterfield side will be "at an all time high" after two impressive wins against Huddersfield and Southend respectively but many Spirietes fans count tomorrow's match as their toughest so far.
Caleb Folan is out with a hamstring problem, Derek Niven is a doubt with a groin injury but player to watch, Larkin should be fit despite picking up a knock in the 3-0 against Bristol City in mid-week.
Mansfield signed Larkin in 2002 from Wolves for £125,000 and scored 25 goals in 61 starts for the League Two club. Last summer he joined Chesterfield and has netted 4 times this season in 9 games.
He is a pacey striker who is a good finisher and links up well with veteran, Wayne Allison.
The Swansea defence will also have to keep their eye on Paul Hall and Wayne Allison who have both scored 5 goals this season.
Chesterfield didn’t start their season off too well and were just 1 place off the bottom following a 4-1 thrashing at Oldham.
However, after impressive wins against Bristol (3-0) and Huddersfield (4-3) respectively they have continued to go up the table and currently lie in 5th place, just 3 points behind the Swans.
Swansea Home Form: Ranked 6th WDWD
Chesterfield Away Form: Ranked 7th WLWD
Our last 2 matches against Chesterfield ended 3-2 with both teams winning their match at home.
All time Head to Head:
Swansea Wins: 11
Draws: 7
Chesterfield Wins: 18
I Williamson (Berkshire)
Games: 13
Yellows: 42
Reds: 3
With a full squad available, a full strength side will be out so there’ll be no execuses. It’ll be tough against an in form confident side and I think a draw would be a decent result although I think we are capable of winning by the odd goal. 2-1 HOME WIN.
