After a disappointing draw against Millwall on Tuesday evening Roberto Martinez turns his attentions to the first of a double cup header. Swansea will start their Fa Cup campaign with tricky First round tie away to Non league outfit Billericay Town.
The romance of the FA cup has offered the chance for non league sides to take on league opposition this tie is no different. In what is being touted as the biggest game in the clubs 127 year history Ricay manager Matt Jones has been pragmatic about his squads chances of causing a cup upset on Saturday.
The former Dagenham and Redbridge player has cited that his player`s mentality towards their league opposition will be vital to the clubs chances of success on Saturday.
In contrast Swansea City last season caused a cup upset last season with a 3-0 win over then Premier league outfit Sheffield United. Martinez and his squad will be looking not to be on the receiving end of a cup upset.
Roberto Martinez:
'We saw them a few times as we followed one of their players for a while and they are a team who know how to impose themselves at home.'We will have to adapt to the conditions, and we will treat the game as if it is a league match because the FA Cup is the best cup competition in Europe. It would be a huge mistake to take it lightly.' |
| ''You need to have the attitude that you can win the game, even though we know we probably have to play at the very top of our game. We've got to be honest and say that nine times out of ten Swansea will win, but we've got a puncher's chance in what will be the biggest game in the club's history.' |
Billericay Town manager Matt Jones has a full squad to choose from tomorrow as defender Dave McSweeney returns from a dead leg.
Striker Joe Flack is available after being rested recently and Lee Hodges face a late fitness test after a knee injury.
Former Stevenage Borough Striker Joe Flack fired Ricay into the 1st round of the FA Cup. The striker netted 2 goals against league rivals Folkestone Invicta at the Buzzlines Stadium. The highly rated striker is one of the clubs consistent performers.
Flack has also had a loan spell with Havant and Waterlooville.
Swansea City will be without Ferrie Bodde as he is currently struggling with a hip injury he sustained in training.
Swansea were also dealt a blow with influential midfielder Andy Robinson limping off with a leg injury against Millwall mid week.
Darren Pratley will also be serving a one match suspension after receiving a yellow card in the 1-1 draw against Gillingham last Friday.
Striker Warren Feeney will also be out of contention as he serves the 2nd of a 3 match ban after picking up a straight red card against Gillingham.
Whilst long term injury stricken players Owain Tudur Jones and Darren Way are also sidelined.
The on loan Liverpool winger brought Swansea back from the brink of defeat at the New Den on Tuesday night after his 78th minute equaliser.
Anderson is the clubs joint top goal scorer with 8 goals this season. He is on the top of his game and will cause The Blues problems.
