Swansea Vs Carlisle

Swansea City return to competitive action after nearly two weeks lay-off.

Roberto Martinez activated a League ruling that if 3 or more players were on International duty then he could request that the game be postponed. Warren Feeney , Joe Allen and Shaun McDonald were called up to their respective national sides.

Roberto Martinez did use the time constructively and took in 3 games over the course of the season break.

On his list of games was the League One match Carlisle United vs Tranmere Rovers at Brunton Park on saturday.

Martinez saw The Cumbrian's lose 1-0 to a 42nd minute strike by Rovers striker Craig Curran.

Vital Quotes:

Roberto Martinez:

''You have to watch games because for all the reports and information you can get off others, there's nothing like seeing things with your own eyes.'

We played Carlisle right at the end of last season and, although the manager has changed and they have some new personnel, they have not changed a lot as a team.'

What they are is very, very solid and very difficult to break down. They are well organised, their work-rate is fantastic and they have a couple of new boys up front who will score goals.'

They lost for the first time against Tranmere, but there was nothing in the game and it could easily have gone their way.'

Carlisle boss, Greg Abbott:

"We need to score more goals and put teams under a bit more pressure. But I'm not going to be knee-jerk and make any silly decisions off the back of one defeat."

"Not many teams go to South Wales and get a result without being at their top level,"

"I will remind the players of that. We are going to believe in our ability and we are going there to win the game.

"We've watched them three times and hopefully we'll be able to deal with what they've got."

Swansea City Team News:

Swansea have been handed a piece of good news following Marcos Painter's return to training this week.

The Birmingham born defender has been out for 3 weeks with a foot injury sustained before the away game at the Banks Stadium vs Walsall.

Painter has trained all week and is eager to get playing again and has told Martinez he'll be fit for Friday's game.

Ferrie Bodde is ruled out and still has a two match suspension to serve after an off the ball incident with Doncaster midfeilder Brian Stock.

Darren Way and Owain Tudur Jones are still on Richie Evans treatment table.

There is also doubts over new boys Warren Feeney and Andrea Orlandi. Feeney who has been on International Duty with Northern Ireland could be rested. Former Depotivio Alaves midfeilder Andrea Orlandi managed to play the full 90 minutes in a reserve match against Swindon is unlikely to make the bench.

Player to watch: Jason Scotland

Jason Scotland has been in good form and is the Leagues Joint Goal Scorer along with Bournemouth's Lee Bradbury.

The former St Johnston Striker has been in good form since joining Swansea City in the summer.

The Trinidad and Tobago International is a true match winner and his power and strength will cause problems for the Carlisle defence.

Carlisle United Team News:

Manager Greg Abbott is set to name an unchanged side from the one that lost 1-0 to Tranmere last week.

He has no new injury worries since last weekend and could have Irish defender Peter Murphy back after he played an hour in a Reserves game this week.

Chelsea loanee Harry Worley also travels with the squad.

Despite concerns of their fitness following the Bristol Rovers game, goalkeeper Keiren Westwood and defender Danny Raven should retain their places tonight.

Player to watch: Danny Livesey

Carlisle's 6ft2 defender Danny Livesey has been in fine form for The Cumbrians. He is the clubs leading goalscorer with 2 goals.
