I think we are a bit thin on the ground up front. For example,Bony played in New York at 0200 hours this morning, and is expected to play on Saturday. If he doesn't get a plane home this morning straight after the match, and a good nights sleep tonight,he'll have to fly home tonight and arrive early hours of tomorrow, miss training and will be knackered for Saturday and unable to play. Who do we have if he can't play, move Michu up front again, and struggle like we did at the back end of last season,or draft the inexperienced Donnelly in. We've lost three strikers recently,in Graham,Lita, and Moore, and replaced them with one.
I thought we would have gone for Matej Vydra, but HJ says their still looking, and with him saying the new striker coming in would only play half of the season anyway,I would be surprised if any player would want to come after hearing that.

We are biding our time with regard to that extra striker but as you say it might be a problem on Saturday if Bony feels too tired to play, we only have Donnelly as cover and he is totally inexperienced at that level. Difficult to get anyone signed up with only a promise of the occasional game though if we do progress to the next stage of the Europa league we will definitely need another striker to play in certain games when our main players need resting. Not too concerned at this stage but expect we will probably leave it late before deciding on our spare forward.

Talking of Bari's,the other one,Barry Town, won a court case the other day against the Welsh FA,and now enter the bottom rung of the Welsh League. Not only that, but Llanelli have been let back in again as well,so great news for both clubs, and one in the eye for the old fuddy duddy's at HQ.
Kevin Doyle 29 years old,of Wolves has been mentioned as a possible recruit to complete our squad signings,27 goals in 136 appearances for them.

Latest rumours mention a young Croat forward, his first name is Ante and if he is half as good as the Yugoslav defender with the same first name we had in the Toshack era he'll do just fine. I doubt very much we would go for Doyle, our philosophy these days is to recruit young up and coming players not those that are nearing their sell by date.

Ash is the same age as Doyle, but I see what you mean. Ante Reykovic is now 60,and lives in Croatia,I talked to him outside the stadium a few years ago, maybe he could be our link to this player,I'm sure he's still in contact with our club, especially with Alan Curtis, who played with him.One of our best players of that era,we bought him from FK Sarajevo.

What a player Reykovic was, a great defender and built like a tank, took no prisoners but was skillful with it along with Jimmy Habziabdic at left back, they were a revelation for us back in the Toshack era.

As for the game yesterday was a wake up call for us after all the talk of another sparkling season. Have to say the scoreline did not fully reflect the game but we were ruthlessly punished by one of the best players in the world, he was the main difference between the sides though I did feel our defence fell short of their best with Ash probably having one of his worst games. Maybe all the speculation regarding a possible move is in his head right now or perhaps the fact he played a full 90 minutes on Wednesday night left him a little tired both physically and mentally.

Lapses in defence cost us dearly. We looked the better side for the first 30 mins, and if we'd scored then,it may have been different. Two goals before half time virtually killed us off. We pumped too many poor balls into the box second half, which were either overhit,or Vidic and Ferdinand gobbled up with ease, but we scored a consolation playing it to feet. The back four were poor today, and Williams looked to have jet lag,not Bony. I hope this is not a continuation of the form from the end of last season, where we showed relegation form, and it will be important to get those first three points on the board.

Yes it struck me that our prem form needs to improve after we struggled towards the end of last season but we have strengthened and also won't be playing a team with RVP in it every week so am not too disheartened at the moment. Thursday we must really push for a win though I reckon it will be a much tougher task than we had against Malmo. It's a difficult start in the league for us with our next opponents being a new look Spurs side out to impress their home fans so a point there would be a fantastic achievement.

It's difficult to see where the points are going to come from any time soon. Perhaps we need to play more defensively in the next few league games,as confidence has taken a bit off a knock. We need to get this back up striker in soon,11 days left in the transfer window.
It will be interesting to see the teamsheet for Thursday's first leg against Ploiesti. Dyer was limping badly at the end of the game on Saturday, and could hardly walk, all subs used,we were virtually down to ten men at that time.I haven't heard anything on his injury yet, though, but douby whether he'll be in contention for Thursday.

Suppose we should just concentrate on Thursday for now and then start thinking about Sunday at Tottenham. Ploiesti are an unknown quantity and must be a decent side having put out Vitesse Arnham, expect ML has had them watched so will hopefully have a plan to overcome the Rumanians. Hard to play home first with the onus on us to score a few, can see us playing a strong team as I'm sure the club will want us to progress through to the group stages. With all this talk of a bid from Arsenal for two of our best players we may need Europe to keep them with us, really am not happy with the transfer window open til 2nd Sept as it so unsettling for players and fans alike.

If we got knocked out before the transfer window closes, this would definitely affect our chances of keeping our best players.Hopefully Wenger saw our match last Saturday, and is having second thoughts on making a bid.
Ploiesti are an unknown quantity, and as ML says,we must be careful not to concede in the home match.I wonder what defence he'll go with.

Would expect a strong back four with maybe Taylor given a run out as Ben did not have a good game last weekend. No idea what sort of team the Rumanians have and how good they are but it is very important we keep a clean sheet at home if at all possible as if they do score it will surely give them a huge lift for the second leg.

The Ploiesti manager will know how we set up,as he played under ML at Getafe, and being a defender,he will concentrate on defence. They are a bit of an unknown,so we have to start cautiously until we see how they play.
We need to utilise the squad,as we have a tough game on Sunday at Spurs, who will hopefully be knackered after their European trip.

Yes the premier league has to take priority but I feel Europe is also important for us to enable us to keep our two wanted players, thought Ash and Michu would be cup tied now if they moved clubs but apparently this wouldn't be the case until we got to the next round of the Europa competition and they played.

Tonight could be a difficult tie if the Rumanians come with a park the bus mentality, saying that we need a clean sheet as well to give us an advantage in the second leg. Early kick off may affect the crowd, also the very poor service on times from the ticket office and the lateness in availability for general sales may also make a few decide it is too much hassle trying to get ticket when they can watch it on ITV4 for free.

Talking about keeping players, rumour is that Ki is off. One paper said he'd had a bust up with ML end of last season. I hope he doesn't go.as I think he's a really good footballer, that we haven't seen the best of yet. I thought everything was hunky dory,he came on as sub last Sat and looked good.He also adds some height to our diminutive rearguard, and his forward play has yet to be exploited, why was he missing last night, not even sub? He is huge publicity for us in Asia, and I think we should keep him. Why have a £6mill asset loaned out to assist a PL mini league rival such as Sunderland,it doesn't make sense to me?
