Surely Canas wouldn't be happy here without game time. If no Spanish club can match his wages then we are stuck with him on the payroll and it would make sense to utilise him.Six days left in the transfer window.
Maybe it's a good thing for us that Wilf is not making the headlines and scoring goals. Starting next Tuesday he will go on a goalscoring spree for us! Giroud is out for a few months at least, and Wenger is definitely looking for a striker, whether Bony fits the bill who knows. A plus for us is that Wenger does not like spending too much money!

Any scout watching Wilf last night will have not been that impressed with him missing a couple of clear cut chances but I'm happy about that as we know what he can do when on form. Despite us only scoring one goal last night I enjoyed the game, we saw two teams with different ways of playing with the home side coping well with the physical nature of the Rotherham attack. Thought Bartley did very under pressure from their bustling forwards whilst new signing Federico for the most part looked calm and assured at the back. Carroll worked very hard in midfield and did remind me of Joe Allen/Leon, his distribution improved as the better players joined him and can see him being utilised more than Fulton and Sheean who both looked less likely first team candidates.

Everton in the next round then, and a home tie, can't be bad. Although we've never beaten them, this time will be as good a chance as any, with them having 4 games in 10 days due to their Europa League involvement. With us being the third of those four games, and Liverpool being the fourth,I can't see them putting out their first team against us,so we have a good chance to lay the bogey.
We need these cup games to utilise the squad and give them game time, which is,ironically, the opposite to last season, where we complained of too many games!

Must admit I do miss the Europa games especially the away trips and envy the likes of Hull this season though I suppose all those games did have a detrimental affect on our league form.

Another home tie in the Capital One cup was preferable for Garry and the team and playing Everton next month when they are inundated with fixtures might give just us the upper hand and eventually lead to a first ever win against them.

Good news with Ki signing a new four year deal, his year away from Swansea will have helped him evaluate his career and made him appreciate the type of team we are. Must have been tough for him at first in Sunderland but it certainly did him good and built up his confidence helping to keep them up. Think the fact that Monk is in charge here now has made a huge difference to him and he referrred to this in his interview today, he's very happy to be back now and seems to have a more mature attitude regarding his role in the team.

Hull are out, they didn't last long did they.As one of the teams in our mini league it would have been better for us if they'd stayed in and had the distraction for a while longer.
Only a few days left in the transfer window. Latest is that we've just signed a striker for the development squad,James Demetriou from N.Forest. A winger and left back are still to come in according to GM,we're leaving it pretty close though, again.
In reference to Bony he said - "We can't afford to let anyone go anywhere now. I know that if a ridiculous offer comes in then money talks in this world, but it would have to be astronomical to persuade us to sell."

Can't see anyone coming in for Wilf at this late stage with an "astonomical" bid but will be holding my breath til 11pm on Monday. I think he is happy to stay with us for now but come January if one or two of the bigger clubs are struggling for goals and he is scoring as well as last season then we might have to face losing him. Watched Ben playing for Spurs last night, he did well fair play but must say it hurt to see him in a Spurs shirt and doing the things that we have been missing from our left back so far this season.

Hopefully the £24m price tag has frightened everybody away.
Spurs have certainly shafted us this season. From the £10m for Gylfi (when an £8m fee had been agreed with Palace),to stealing Ben for a paltry £10m,and then getting Vorm for a knock down price just to free our wage bill, and now the latest, instantly snatching our long time target Stambouli from under our noses with a snap of their fingers, when we've dithered over it for months.

Jenkins is a novice compared with Daniel Levy but who knows the ins and outs of the recent deals between the two, with Utrecht still awaiting a a decision from FIFA about any sell on payment for Vorm maybe more will be known in the near future. Have a strong feeling that Siggy's wages are being subsidised by his former club which could add a substantial amount to what they paid for Ben. It is a shame about Stambouli though just hope there are strong and sound reasons why we changed our mind about him.

Well the other defensive midfielder that was stolen from us by Martinez, Muhamed Besic, had a mare for Everton yesterday against Chelsea, what a shame.
Two days left for the transfer window and the Bony rumours persist, latest being Arsenal have asked us to drop our price to £16m,ha ha! No sign of the two players that Monk wants,HJ leaving it very late,I wonder if they're loan deals and the players concerned were at the stadium watching the match yesterday? No inkling from the Press, which is unusual.

Have to say it was sheer delight to watch us yesterday, we completely and utterly dominated a West Brom side that we made look very poor. Apart from one or two moments we were in complete control and our players showed some sublime skills which left us all breathless at times. Sigurdsson once again was pivotal and had a hand in all our goals, loved the back heel for Nathan's excellently taken first and another brilliantly weighted through ball for our wingers second. With Wayne chipping in with a fantastic half volley and some near misses from Wilf it was certainly a day to remember.

Special mention for Jordi Amat who proved his managers decision to keep him in the side was correct, it is great to have him playing well enough to keep our new Argentinian defender on the bench.

Well done to Monk too for all his efforts so far, still very early days as we know but the work he has put in already is showing in the way we are playing, with one or two more additions as cover hopefully we can gain the points we need early on to be safe. Have certainly made a great start.

How is FF going to get up to speed without games? This is also the worry with all the squad players with no reserve league to keep fit and match sharp. I'm surprised the PL do not re-introduce the Football Combination League to keep these fringe players going. They can make guest appearances in the Under 21's but it's not the same and limited to only a few over 21's. Great for Amat,he seems to be thriving on the competition, but we can't keep an £8m player on the bench indefinitely.
The heady heights of second in the table only goal difference keeping us from top spot, and just look at the big names below us. Only Chelsea and us unbeaten, and ironically we play them next,a huge match to come a week on Saturday..

Yes we can bask in the glory of being joint top for a couple of weeks at least, the Chelsea game can wait but am sure our manager is already planning his strategy for our visit to Stamford Bridge. They are a formidable side with strength throughout the team, from their new young keeper to their new striker Costa they are brimming with quality and will be very confident having despatched Everton fairly easily. In a way the international break has come at the wrong time for us as momentum will be lost but maybe it will give time for us to work on different options particularly at the back with our new Argentian defender needing practice and a possible left back coming in today though no news yet.

Jose Canas leaves on deadline day, contract cancelled by mutual consent after GM said he was not in his plans.
I guess we'll never know what happened after ML left, but the exodus is the biggest clear out of players at one time that I can remember, and mostly players that ML signed. Amat is the only one left and seems quite content to stay, especially whilst keeping an £8m player out from the side.

It was obvious last season that there was a split within the camp with all sorts of rumours culminating in the brick incident at Landore. Jenkins couldn't let it fester any longer particularly as results on the field had started to cause major concern. Seems once Laudrup had gone the majority of his signings wanted out proving they had no allegiance whatsoever towards the club. Only long serving Spaniard Angel & young Jordi were happy to stay with Monk in charge which shows their commitment was not Laudrup based.

Jordi has been rewarded with three first team starts & has proved his loyalty & his worth. Shame that some of the others weren't prepared to do the same.

Think we have definitely improved the quality of the squad overall, the only ones I would like to have kept would have been Ben, Pablo and a fit and functioning Michu (though seems that he is yet to have reached any sort of form at Napoli). Very glad to see the back of N'Gog, Lita and Vasquez who were all a waste of wages last season.

Pity we couldn't strengthen those two positions that Monk wanted but deals could obviously not be reached for certain targets and Jenkins has learned its best not to panic and pick anyone to fill in as it generally is a waste of time and money...remember Itay Schechter!

Conversely to the 11 players leaving,we have 11 players on international duty including under 21's,which must be a new record for us. We've definitely strengthened since last season, the best buy showing so far is Gylfi, with one goal and four assists. Montero has spurred our wingers on,with the competition for places, and it's great to see them all playing so well.
We need to be lucky with injuries, and hope our DM and LB lack of cover is not exposed. Definitely HJ has learned a lesson and no dud panic buys came in this time.
