Strong links to us being made by a French website for striker Gomis,he of 17 goals in the French League last season, and talk of him travelling to Swansea today to talk terms. But before everyone gets excited, another French website saus this -
Bafétimbi Gomis-Swansea link overplayed.Get French Football News understands that France Football’s claims today that Swansea were about to sign Bafétimbi Gomis are not exactly true, although the Welsh side has progressed in terms of talks with the out and out striker this week. Bafétimbi Gomis has yet to make a decision on his future at the time of writing. The player has a number of offers on the table, and is leaning towards a move to the Premier League. The situation is to be clearer next week.
He would be a great signing but how can we afford his wages,Newcastle reportedly offered him £75k a week,we have a wage cap of 40k a week, unless they pay him a lump sum signing on fee. He would have to play up front with Bony as they are similar players,so is Monk changing the system,or is Bony leaving?
We are also being linked with ex-Wigan winger Victor Moses, now of Chelsea, but he flopped whilst on loan at Liverpool last season.Chelsea don't want him but cannot recover the 19m they paid for him,so another loan deal sounds plausible.

All speculation at the moment with regard to transfers as agents work behind the scenes to organise deals ahead of July 1st when the wheeling and dealing will get into full swing. My concern is over who we can attract this time round without a big name at the helm or without the contacts that are sometimes necessary, it worries me that we might have to settle for players who won't enhance our squad with the quality we need to keep us competitive. Losing our best is another concern with the better wages being offered at nearly every other prem club, will they want to stay with us where we can guarantee them regular football and are happy or will they be persuaded by greedy agents to go for a big money move.

Yes,all speculation. What we do know is that nobody have moved in or out since we released players at the end of the season.
Williams is waiting for a big club to come in,otherwise he would have signed,he will run down his contract and go for free at the end of next season. He has turned down our best offer,so we should be looking hard for a replacement centre back,as Ash obviously wants a big money move.
Bony has been linked with many clubs but no bids as yet. Even Michu has been linked to a few clubs for 6mill,but what is his medical status?A fit and in form Michu is worth a lot more than that.
JDG didn't play for Holland yesterday, good news for us as his price keeps on rising, latest quote is 11mill,way overpriced, and out of our range.

Bafetimbi Gomes seems to be the latest name we are linked to, if I remember he was on our radar before but went elsewhere but is now a free agent and looking for a good pay deal. Whether we can or want to offer him that is open to debate but according to the Evening Post he would not be a replacement for Bony who we apparently are keen to keep...

Glorious weather infact it is too hot to sit out in the garden so I'm indoors watching the annual tennis feast, just love Wimbledon and all that goes with it. Haven't applied for tickets for a few years but it is such a great day out in wonderful surroundings and is without doubt the best tennis tournament in the world.

The media are saying Gomis has shook hands on a three year deal after meeting with HJ in Swansea, and even undergone a medical. He was previously said to have turned down a 75k a week deal with Newcastle. With our wage cap reportedly set at 40k,maybe we've got round this problem by giving him a big signing on fee. Bony scored again last night, attracting more attention,at least we'll now
have cover if he does decide to leave us for a big club.
What has gone under the radar is that 19 year old Falkirk left back Stephen Kingsley is in Swansea for a
medical, after the clubs agreed a 350k transfer fee, rising to 850k, joining his mate Jay Fulton in the
Academy with a view to introducing him into the first team. I would have thought right back was the more pressing position to cover, unless Taylor is on his way.

Yes seems like done deal for Gomis but until its confirmed officially we shouldn't take it as gospel. If he is joining us then just hope he can do the business for us particularly if we can't hang on to Wilf who raised his profile again with that goal last night. Media still not calling him by his correct name, even Jason Mohammed now working for national BBC in Brazil insisted on calling him Bonny maybe on purpose though as he's Cardiff born & bred.

Gomis deal in the balance as talks stall, apparently he has not yet agreed the finer details of a contract, and is reportedly having cold feet about moving to South Wales. The only good news is that he is still in Swansea, and not done a runner like Ince.
Newcastle media say Gomis wanted a move to Tyneside all along, and is hoping for a late swoop from the Magpies. However, their local rag,The Journal, claims that NUFC are not planning to steal Gomis from Swansea because they have other targets in sight. They report that Newcastle officials, alerted to Gomis’s long-term contract demands, along with a huge signing-on fee, rejected the chance to sign the Frenchman over the weekend. Gomis was expected to sign a three-year deal with the Swans, but now faces an uncertain future with a move to Swansea 50-50, and Newcastle’s interest non-existent.

The greed of agents representing their clients is becoming more & more of an issue & if I were Jenkins I wouldn't offer anything further to entice a player whose main objection seems motivated by money. If he wants to hedge his bets & keep looking for the highest bidder then I'd not want him playing for us, let him go elsewhere so that we can find someone who wants to play for Swansea City first & foremost. We are a club with a good reputation playing in the most watched league in the world so are an attractive option for many gifted strikers.

It seems HJ is erring on the side of caution by getting the finer details of this deal just right - "I think it's good to do things with caution,Gomis is still here and we are hoping to get things concluded soon."
"Swansea say there has been no significant hold-up and that are no major hurdles to clear before the former Lyon man can be confirmed as their player."
I'm sure there was a similar delay when we signed Bony, and negotiations dragged on for while. Let's hope we hear some good news later today, with Gomis having further medical tests this afternoon.

Think our chairman has learned over the years how to get best deal he can when negotiating with players & their agents. Remember him saying that the deal to bring Martinez to us was the hardest he had encountered so will know that sometimes some give & take is required. Gomis apparently was in Verdis having coffee yesterday, who can resist moving to this area when the weather is fine, if he'd had a Joe's ice cream that would surely have clinched the deal.

So we eventually got our man,as Bafi finally signs after five days negotiations. A huge coup for HJ and the club to get a much vaunted international striker full of goals,on a free transfer.
It probably entailed a big signing on fee,but we were prepared to pay 8.5 mill for him last season. It is the hardest position to fill, every team wants a striker full of goals, and now we've got three if you include attacking midfielder Michu!
At last we've got plenty of firepower up front, and will not be relying on one player to score all the goals. If we can keep Bony, and Michu regains his form, our side will be full of goals.

We were all obviously delighted to get the news of Gomis finally putting pen to paper, no doubt all the money he gets in signing on fee was influential though am sure the beautiful Swansea coastline had something to do with it...

There is a downside to this however with the possibility of either Michu or Bony moving on, I wouldn't want to lose either but economics comes into it plus trying to fit all three into the side. My concern is also around Spurs trying to poach Ben for a knockdown fee, there isn't a huge amount of difference between him & Shaw yet the Saints player is worth four times more to Man U? Seems ludicrous & I'm sure Jenkins will be reluctant to let our boy go without a substantial offer despite us still being thought of as small fry amongst the elite.

We all thought he was going to be another Ince, touting himself around the clubs, but fair play he spent from Mon to Fri hanging around in Swansea until the deal was clinched, albeit highly paid for his trouble!
We do not have to leave anybody go,especially at knock down prices. We have reserves who are well paid and are hardly ever going to make the first team, get rid of them.
Why do other clubs try it on with us.Southampton have received massive cash deals for Lallana and Shaw, are they really worth three times as much as Ben,don't think so. Spurs can take a running jump with their paltry offer from their renowned tight fisted chairman Daniel Levy.

The Ben Davies to Spurs rumour escalates furthewr, with media saying that Ben has travelled to London for talks after the clubs agreed an 8 mill fee for him. They can't be serious,he's worth at least double that. There must be something in all these reports though, they couldn't just make it up.
Regarding Michu, apparently Monk is to have talks with him when he reports back for pre season training on Wednesday, but that's another of our players who, according to the media, has already had a medical at Napoli!
Is it the agents feeding the Press to stir up interest in their clients, who knows, but we'll find out pretty soon.

The Ben to spurs rumour gathers pace but as you say the price Levy wants to pay appears to be very low yet maybe a clause in Ben's current contract might trigger a move if it's what he wants. Only he & his family will know what his position is & if he is keen to move, with fitness tests at our club tomorrow it will be interesting to see if he turns up.

Same could be said for Michu though I have no doubt of his professionalism & commitment once his position is made clear. Would like to think that Garry can persuade him that there is still an important role for him here but maybe his unwavering loyalty to the departed Laudrup might have already given him reason to move on.

This morning the papers are saying Spurs want Bony,Davies and Vorm, three first team players from last season, are in talks with Swansea, and are negotiating hard to bring down the fees! Together with Taylor,Michu and Williams, half our team is supposedly on the move, and it's a bit disconcerting to fans and players to have to read this day after day.
If the media/agents/rival clubs aim is to unsettle our players, then I must say they're doing a damn fine job.

Trying not to read too much into the press speculation about Spurs poaching our best players, can't see Garry or Jenkins letting it happen as it would be pure folly. Will be glad when the window finally shuts at the end of August & we can all relax for a few months til it all starts again in January.
