Monsoon weather this morning, has summer deserted us,as it did last August?
What a knot Coventry have tied themselves in. An empty state of the art Ricoh stadium, that they can't afford to rent, languishing in League 1,and losing 3-2 at Crawley yesterday. Even worse,Portsmouth in League 2,losing at home 1-4 to Oxford. Good on Newport, great start to their League 2 adventure winning 4-1. Yeovil won away at Millwall, tough place to go,in their first ever Championship game. Tate played the full game at right centre back, good on him.

One thing I did notice while watching highlights of the opening day of the new season was the empty seats at many of these lower league grounds, the exception being at Leeds where 33,000 attended. They were apparently lucky to win against Brighton but with Bates now departed and a decent new manager their fans have renewed optimism so will be one team to watch out for.

Shame the good weather has deserted us, was hoping to get to the Gower Show today but gave it a miss because of all the rain. Not sure what weather will await our fans in Sweden, Malmo got a 3-1 win away this afternoon but their best striker got injured at the end and must be a doubt for the second leg on Thursday.

Leeds have kept their huge number of fans from their glory days, even though they've been in decline for years. It's no coincidence that they got a huge crowd,it's because the dislikeable Bates had left,a lot of their fans were staying away because of him. This is why we should expand the ground, get the kids in and get them hooked on the Swans early,as they are our fans of the future, enabling us to draw bigger gates, even if we fall on bad times again.
Was their best striker that number 7,who kept fouling all the time against us,and diving as if poleaxed when tackled,he was eventually subbed, and booed off.

Nothing ever gets done swiftly in Swansea, the council drag their heels with planning permission whatever it is for but it is important that we expand our stadium to accommodate our young fans of the future.Think they are still discussing the traffic problems that extra fans would create, if they provided better bus services and sorted out the car park opposite the stadium then surely that help considerably. Used to be a park and ride from the recreation ground to the stadium but that was poorly advertised and therefore got dropped through lack of passengers.

Wasn't the park and ride suspended due to gypsies taking over the site?Just off the motorway, and ideal for park and ride, people have to use it again, maybe if it was subsidised it would become more popular. That, together with a train halt close to the stadium would certainly help.
I see Rooney has alienated the Man Utd dressing room with his overtures of wanting to leave. It's all player power nowadays,if they don't get a transfer when they want, then unhappy players will affect the other players morale. Just in time to play us too, keep it up Rooney.

Yes the park and ride from junction 45 was discontinued because of the gypsy's just taking over the car park....I could say a lot about that but will keep my own counsel...There is a park and ride scheme from junction 47 I think which is still used by home and away fans, not well advertised again though. The council have to get their act together and sort out the parking, they are the ones that allow unsolicited visitors to stay indefinitely on their land free of charge and then turn round and say that they can't allow expansion plans for the stadium because of parking problems.

As for Rooney he has had his nose put out of joint when RVP arrived and took his striker role, I don't think he has been at his best for a while and whether through injury or design has not appeared to be fully fit. Had Fergie still been at Man U then this would have been sorted but the new man coming in does not have the same respect yet so this could drag on until a compromised is agreed. As you say suits us if Man U have not got a settled side come August 17th though it will still be a really tough opener for us.

Funnily enough,I was in Porthcawl the other day and several gypsies had moved into Rest Bay with their new Caravans and new Irish number plated 4x4's. They'd got round the boulders edging the road from the grass and were camped there, using the tap outside the Lifeboat Station for fresh water, whilst the place was full of tourists. In the event, they were gone within 3 days, but I looked up on the internet, and there are massive problems trying to move them on. The council can't touch them without a court order, even if it's council land, and this action could take several weeks. EEC Human Rights comes into it,and if they have kids in school locally or anybody sick, they can't be moved. The police can't be involved because they haven't broken any laws.
Poor Rooney,on 200k per week and still not happy. Great player though he is,he should knuckle down and fight for his place.
Good news about Dyer,a Swans favourite, signing a new four year contract,no outstanding players contracts now,all signed up long term, well done the Board.

Dyer on cloud nine as he pens a new deal, good to see such enthusiasm. Seems as if the City square in Malmo is full of Swans fans, going by forum reports, they'll need deep pockets though, with beer between £5 to £8 a glass. For us not so well off ones left behind,we can watch all the action live on ITV4,starting at 6.30pm tonight. Will ML juggle the squad to give players game time, and will he shut up shop and go all defensive, relying on quick breaks out of defence,or will he look to attack and score more goals,we'll soon find out.

It was very expensive so much so that we came back with money because we refused to pay the high prices. The hotel we stayed at was excellent and breakfast was included so we filled ourselves up enough to last til tea time, had to buy water tho which was over £2 a small bottle...

Good to see Dyer commit, there is still room for improvement with his final ball but he does cause problems for defences as he runs at them. One more quality striker to come in and nobody to go out would be ideal.

Seven changes and they slotted in seamlessly to the system. We kept things tight, and were unlucky not to win by two goals.Bony's offside goal that definitely wasn't offside,as shown by replays, plus the foul by their goalkeeper on De Guzman for a definite penalty, not given. Jazz was restricted in attack with Pozuelo drifting inside too much and leaving him exposed, and De Guzman needs more match time as his free kicks and corners were dreadful.
I wonder if the Swedes get higher salaries to compensate for their high cost of living there.

Think the Swedes must get paid well, must say they are a healthy lot as most ride round on bikes as do the Dutch, it does help that it is as flat as a pancake there which was just as well for us with all the walking we did.

It was good that ML was able to give some members of the squad a run out with the game all but won already, it was difficult from where we were to see the offside decision was wrong. There were other incidents such as a corner for us in the first half that wasn't given which clearly came off a defender and several throw in decisions. The De Guzman penalty was right down the other end so we had no idea that he had been fouled by the keeper, thankfully it made no difference to the final result. It does concern me a little going to Rumania second leg as they are known to simulate fouls against them, just hope we can go there with a decent result under our belts as we did for the Malmo game.

Rodgers is in a bit of a stew at Liverpool, demanding an apology from Suarez, who refuses. He wants to leave to get European Cup football, but Liverpool do not want him to go,turning down a 40m bid from Arsenal. Hopefully Rodgers wins,if Suarez goes he'll have a cash pot to spend, and guess where his first stop will be to spend it.
For the home tie with Ploesti,we need to build a good lead to take to the away match,as in the previous round. They are a bit of an unknown quantity, but to beat Vitesse Arnhem away in the last round, they must be pretty good.

Watched part of the Liverpool v Celtic game which took place in Dublin, a 1-0 win for the Scottish side. Most of the stadium was filled with Irish Liverpudlians and they must have been disappointed by what was a poor display, Rodgers had Aspas upfront with Joe Allen in an attacking midfield role which to be fair is not his best position. He went off second half to little applause so our ex Swan will have an uphill task to convince the fans that he is still worth the £15 million they paid for him. They certainly missed Suarez and if he does go then they will be in deep trouble, to replace a player like him will not be easy with the transfer window slowly closing...can't see Laudrup letting our best players go at this point with the possibility of a Euro league to participate in.
