Jon Jo Shelvey

Danny Graham has been his own worst enemy, had everything going for him with his move to the Swans but has wasted his opportunity to excel due apparently to some of his off field activities...he will have to work extremely hard and change his lifestyle if he is ever to gain the respect of his latest manager.

After a summer of anxiety regarding our manager staying/going things have settled down and the squad with our new signings seem to be happily bonding with our established players. Shelvey has spoken of first class treatment and I do feel this is one of our strengths that there are no big name players to rock the boat. Heard that Paul Anderson has moved on to Ipswich, now he was another Swan that made the wrong choice to move away from us and has gone backwards ever since....they never learn.

Danny was another victim of the attractions of Wind Street, and quite a few players before him.
We have a lot of things going for us,a family friendly club that plays attractive football, with a worldwide respected manager in charge. There are huge hurdles to come soon with the Europa Cup and five of our first six league games against teams who finished above us.Hopefully we'll be ready for the challenge and surprise a few on the way.

Feel a lot more confident for next season than a few weeks ago, can see we are strengthening in depth to cope with the demands of the prem, cup and the Europa league. It was nearly the downfall of Newcastle last season especially as they had a big injury list. Read that we had the best medical team in the prem last season stats wise, that is a fantastic achievement when you consider how small our budget is and how we've had to manage working out of Llandarcy. Kate Rees says moving into the new Landore site will help having everything in one place, of course we eventually will be over at Fairwood where hopefully facilities will be even more sophisticated.

I can't see SwanPaul's post,although it's showing on the list.

Maurice Setters
I read that about our medical team too,we've certainly shown up the mega bucks clubs with our limited facilities.
A right back,a winger and a striker, and our jigsaw will be complete. ML said yesterday there's no rush to get the second striker. There may be some bargains on offer from another PL club once their transfer business is finished,we just have to bide our time. He mentioned about players at the lower end of the Championship not adding much to what we've already got. Was he referring to Jordan Rhodes of Blackburn,Jack Hunt of Huddersfield,Ronnie Stam of Wigan,or Estaban Granero of QPR,all have been linked with us recently.

No rush to bring any others in just yet, Jenkins has certainly had a busy few weeks getting seven new players in...must be a record for us and most at a very reasonable cost. Of course wages have to be considered but I do like the fact that pay is related to performance and will be a factor in our future success I'm sure. To earn an extra few bob for scoring or winning is certainly an incentive for most players, am sure if QPR had had a similar pay structure last season then we would have seen a lot more effort put in by some of their highly paid employees.

Regarding QPR,we're supposed to be talking to Granero, one of the team who allegedly didn't put much effort in last season. ML has worked with him at Getafe,so he knows him well, can't say I noticed him much in our league encounters though.
It's JA membership subscription time again. I thought they were considering changing it,but it seems to be the same formula as last season, with points carried over.
I watched the clip of the new players initiation singing in their hotel on youtube,it was very funny.

Not sure why we would be looking at Granero with the abundance of talent that we already have in midfield, we could do with another quick winger and cover for Bony and possibly another centre back as we lack height there and are still vulnerable to the high ball in the area.

First home game is live on sky at 5.30 as are our next two home games...seems the habit of having a Saturday 3 o'clock home game is a thing of the past but can't complain becaue of where we are. Much better than facing teams like Rochdale or Hartlepool on a regular basis.

Granero midfield and Hunt right back were targets, but Jonjo was signed and Jazz is being given his chance, according to ML. So the four left behind have been told to find another club. Tate still has two years left on his contract, the rest one year. Agustien's traffic offenses look to have gone against him,and Moore will have "could have tried harder" on his CV.
ML said he wants a more agile and offensive centre back, but strangely Tate used to get forward more than Monk.
So we can now relax, with our signings all but complete,or can we? Until the window closes we have to be on the alert that we have two or three players that are being mentioned as potential signings for other clubs, namely Dyer,Michu and Ash. The latter being maybe too old for Arsenal at 29 next month to pay the 10 mill price tag. Yet Sunderland have just signed attacking midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini from Juventus ,28 years old last May,for 9 mill. Only nine months difference in age,so maybe it's just Wenger's policy only to buy younger players.

Think attacking players who can score goals will always be worth more than defenders but I hope we stick to our guns and don't let Ash go for less than we really want. Next few weeks may be a time for keeping fingers crossed as the wealthy will be looking at some of our squad with envy, I really hope our boy Michu stays as he fits into our team perfectly and doesn't seem the type to want great wealth and fame, he's such a level headed guy who just likes the simple things like the view across Rhossilli Bay....

unlike Kemy who has really done himself no favours with his off field misdemeanors. He has the talent but is another player who has not fulfilled his full potential with us, injuries have plagued his stay but sometimes you have to work at fitness to stay free from niggles and strains.

Funny how we couldn't wait for the transfer window to open, and see who we'd sign, now we can't wait for it to shut,so we keep our top players. Hopefully the club have a contingency plan to replace any of our players who leave. We've shown we are just as ambitious as the bigger clubs by splashing the cash for quality players, and having Euro football that some teams above us in the table do not have,so perhaps our players will not want to leave anyway.

Tom Ince

So the Blackpool boy decided against a move to our neighbours, don't blame him but will be a bitter blow for Mackay and his Malaysian backers. Seems they are not as attractive a proposition as they and their fans would like to think, to be fair a newly promoted club is usually touted as likely relegation candidates as we were in our first season under Rodgers. Even last season there were doubters who thought we'd struggle to survive after the arrival of another new manager. Thankfully we are starting to establish ourselves a little but our main priority is to get to forty odd points as soon as we can, early games are very tough but we must be fully ready to cope with the big guns from the start.

With Tom Ince, maybe he's listening to his father too much.Even if Cardiff went back down,he could move on,plus PL experience is vital for his career,so I just don't understand the decision. He could wait for a suitable club forever if he's overpriced. Maybe he's hanging on for a move back to Liverpool, which seems unlikely at the moment. The price tag is high, but his potential is huge,as we saw first hand when Blackpool played us last season,he looked really good.
With our tough start and Europa League,we have to make sure we keep on collecting points, even if it's draws,a run of losses from the start would drain confidence. So maybe we will not play so much open attacking football as we would like, but keep it tighter against these top clubs,to enable us to get some points on the board.

Wouldn't have minded Ince for us but the idea of paying the full asking price was out of the question according to Jenkins on talksport recently. Our money has gone on someone that he feels can be the most likely to get us goals, we needed an out and out striker which we've now got, a winger like Ince would be a luxury as we already have three decent ones at our disposal. We are looking for another striker who can give us a different option and cover for Bony but may be a late decision who comes in, maybe a young loan player would be sufficient.
