Scotland Jet Lag Concerns

After a gruelling 18 hour round flight to to and from Trinidad, Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez will be hoping his star man Jason Scotland will not feel any ill effects of his involvement with the Trinidad and Tobago national team.

Eforts were made by the club to prevent Scotland from playing in a International friendly against Guadeloupe ranked 94th in the world at the Hasely Crawford Stadium earlier this week. It is understood that the Soca Warriors new Columbian manager Francisco Maturana wanted to asses his players ; ahead of the second round of Qualification of world cup qualification in the CONCAF region where the islands will face either the Cayman Islands or Bermuda.

Scotland was given clearance to play under strict instructions from Swansea City that he should not play more than 45 minutes in what was to be a lacklustre 0-0 draw against the Gwada Boys.

The former Dundee player has contacted Swansea Physio Richie Evans that he had not sustained any problems due to his international commitments and looks set to feature against Crewe tomorrow afternoon.

Martinez Told The Evening Post

'We spoke to Jason and to the Trinidad & Tobago Federation beforehand about the possibility of him not playing in the game. They have just appointed a new manager and he wanted to meet all his players and see them.'

'It might be a different situation in the future - their manager has made it clear that once he gets to know the players, he will be able to treat them in a different way.'

'It may be then that Jason does not have to travel for friendly games, but in this case he had to and we have dealt with the situation in the best way we could.'

'We don't want to stop his international career and, while the nine-hour flight is not ideal, we are hopeful he will be feeling fresh. He only played 45 minutes of the game, which is what we asked for, and we'll see how Jason is when we meet up with him.'

Vital Swansea will be running a comprehensive match updates service tomorrow afternoon. With updated news on the team line ups , match action , live radio commentary and live chat in our chat room .

9 hour journey and time difference is very tiring. Rest him for the Crew game and he will be fresh for Wallsall next Tuesday.
