Martinez Wins January Award

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has scooped the January manager of the month award. It is the 3rd time the Spaniard has been awarded the prize.

Martinez had won the December award following the impressive results over Southend United , Northampton Town, Cheltenham Town and the trilling 3-2 win over Leeds United. The Spaniard beat off the other nominees to nab the award, Cheltenham Town's boss Keith Downing, Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll and Cobblers boss Stuart Gray missed out on the award.

The Spaniard has shared his accolade with the rest of the squad and insists that the award has raised the profile of the club.

After a string of impressive results over the course of January , it has seen the Liberty Stadium outfit go 10 points clear at the top of the league one pile. Emphatic wins over Doncaster Rovers , Luton Town and Port Vale have secured top spot. Swansea also secured a vital point at the City Ground against promotion rivals Nottingham Forest.

He Spoke On The Official Site

"It's another great accolade for the club, the coaching staff and the players. It's been a very demanding month with the fixtures coming thick and fast. But the players have remained focussed and maintained their high standards throughout. They deserve the credit more than anyone.W

They've raised the profile of the club yet again with this award, but they know they can't lose focus. We've got too many games ahead of us to do that now.

If we are up there challenging for another award come March, I'll be even happier.''

Roberto Martinez will turn his attentions to the visit of Oldham Athletic on Saturday.
