Swansea City captain Garry Monk has been left under no illusions that the Liberty Stadium outfit will face a tough task against a resurgent Havant & Waterlooville side.
Monk who must surely be a early candidate for player of the season only knows too well what reception that will await them at Westleigh Park.
This has not phased the defender who is surprisingly pragmatic about the fixture. Put simply the message from the rock in the heart of the Swansea defence is the attitude must be right against the non leauge side.
Roberto Martinez will be hoping his players will not get embroiled in the sorts of clashes seen after Brett Poate's potentially career ending tackle on Andrea Orlandi.
Shaun Gale's side warmed up for the clash with a 3-1 win over Blue Square South Division's basement club St Albans City yesterday.
Martinez and Gale will be hoping to secure lucrative pay day against Liverpool should the Reds win their replay against a stricken Luton side brushed aside by Swansea 3-1 in the clash at Kenilworth Road yesterday.
Monk Told The Western Mail
| I played there in pre-season for Southampton and I think it is fair to say it wasn`t pretty.' It probably had a bit of an added edge to it because it`s kind of a local derby, so you had that hostility.' The ground is in the middle of a council estate and I have to say I was lucky being a centre-back and in the middle of the pitch because every time the lads took a throw in they were being spat on, or having their shirts pulled by supporters; it was ridiculous.' Then I remember being on the halfway line with the ball in their area and for some reason I turned around and saw our keeper Scott Bevan`s towel was being set on fire.' He`d put it in the net like most keepers do and it was about to go up in flames!' They might want to jump into tackles and rough us up, but we`re ready.' We have to make sure our quality comes through.' I say it every time but it`s all about attitude and if we get that spot on then no problems." |
