Ellis: Swansea Caught Us Napping

Luton Town's Assistant manager Sam Ellis believes that Swansea City caught the Bedfordshire side napping in their 3-1 loss to the leauge leaders.

Ellis who resigned his position at the club along with manager Kevin Blackwell and head coach John Carver just over 24 hours earlier had nothing but positive words to say about his players.

Key players have departed the financially stricken club in the last week to balance the books at Kenilworth Road.Midfielder David Edwards and Defender Chris Coyne were snapped up by Championship sides Colchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers for fees of £675,000 and £350,000 respectively.

As the administrators at the club sift through the takeover bid proposals submitted within the past week Kevin Blackwell's side were hoping to ease their position on the field with a win against Swansea City.

It was not to be as the Hatters we downed 3-1 to a side pushing clear of the play off places.

Ellis who started his career with Sheffield Wednesday admitted he is not a advocate of the counter attacking style adopted by Roberto Martinez.

He Told Luton Today

'They acquitted themselves very well today and in terms of football we got caught rather naively for the second goal and that made it an uphill task for us.'

The supporters throughout this adversity have been excellent. The players' attitude has been first class.'

We shouldn't have been 2-0 down really. They are a good side, but a parasite team really. They don't come out to box, they come out to spar.'

It obviously suits their team and that's why they are top of the league.''

Luton Town will now hit the road to Liverpool as they take on the former European champions for a place in the 4th round of the FA Cup against either Swansea City or Blue Sqaure South side Havant and Waterlooville.
