Martinez Applauds Team Performance

Quick to praise his teams 3-1 win over Luton Town, Roberto Martinez has heralded the performance by his squad after consigning the Hatters to their first defeat in 5 games.

The South Wales outfit kept their place at the top of leauge one this evening as Martinez's side piled more pressure on the Kenilworth Road side.

Just 5 minutes into the game Luton defender Keith Keane turned the ball into his own net to send Swansea 1-0 up. The home side went into the break 1-0 down with all to play for. It was to be the visitors who were to strike first as Angel Rangel started a sweeping move which eventually led to Guillem Bauza netting his first leauge goal.

One could forgive the Luton fans for thinking their side were dead and buried but on 74 minutes the Hatters top scorer Paul Furlong clawed a goal back.

The goal gave the Bedfordshire club a massive boost and continued to pile pressure on the Swansea defence. However their pressure would not bear fruit and it was at the other end of the pitch that the game finally was put beyond Kevin Blackwell's side.

Powerade leauge one player of the month played up to his billing to send Swansea 3-1 up on 82 minutes.

Luton could not answer Scotland's goal and now are firmly rooted in the relegation places all this with a departure of 5 players , a manager and back room staff and no financial package yet decided upon to save the club .

Despite this Martinez has expressed his joy over another crucial away win that has put more pressure on the chasing pack.

The Spaniard was also supportive of the clubs plight at they struggle to keep afloat this week.

He Told The Evening Post

'It was a very hard game because we knew Luton were going to be fighting for their lives.'

Sometimes that makes things difficult but we knew what we had to do.'

The players showed a fantastic attitude and there was some clinical finishing there too. It was a very good performance.'

Luton Town have a great home record in the league but we coped very well when they put us under pressure.'

It's a sad situation they're in at the moment given their history. '

We all feel for them and hope they can turn the corner. I had the same situation at Motherwell and it puts things into perspective because you can't enjoy your football.'

Swansea now face a tricky test at Westleigh park as they face Havant and Waterlooville in the 3rd round FA Cup replay.
