Monk: 'Referee Was A Disgrace'

Captain Garry Monk branded yesterday's referee as a disgrace after he awarded Swindon a late penalty.

Cox converted to cancel out Tom Butler's goal on 87 minutes.

Monk and his teammates were left fuming with the decision, as O'Leary was guilty of bringing down Cox inside the box.

Garry Monk told the Evening Post:

''I think he is a disgrace.

''He was so arrogant with the way he went about things. He was dying to give them something after the red card.

''Hand on my heart, I've seen so many penalties over the years and that was definitely not a penalty - not in a million years.

''We knew after the red card that the crowd would get on his back. I told him not to listen to them but you could tell he would give them something.

''I always try to speak to the referee before the game as well as during but he was so arrogant he didn't want to listen to a word you had to say.

''We tried talking to him but he was blanking us. I went into his room before the game and he told me to speak to him throughout but you go out there and it's not the case.

''I'm sure if he stood in my place talking to you then he would not admit his mistake.

''I've had him before and it's been quite similar.''

A win yesterday would have put Swansea 6 points ahead of Nottingham Forest in 2nd with a game in hand.

Still, it wasn't to be and Swindon to their credit battled well with 10 men for most of the game.

Was you at the game? What are your views on the penalty decision?
