Police: Leeds Operation A Success

South Wales Police have come under fierce criticism following their containment and security procedures following Swansea City's 3-2 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

In amazing scenes following the final whistle many fans were left climbing up a grass bank to get onto the main road as a police cordon was in place between the west and North stands .

Swans fans have alleged that South Wales Police showed an unreasonable level of force as some have claimed that truncheons were used against supporters.

South Wales Police have confirmed 6 arrests were made 4 of which were Swansea city fans whilst 2 Leeds fans were arrested on site.

Notification of the Police cordon was not made as both sets of fans were left engrossed by the game in progress and led to angry scenes following the game.

Police containment procedures could not prevent missiles being thrown at the travelling Leeds United coaches.

Despite mounting complaints from Swansea and Leeds fans Chief Inspector Keith Bowman has declared the operation a resounding success.

He Told The Evening Post

''It was very successful,' he said. 'We avoided any large scale confrontation between supporters, and hopefully there was minimum disruption to the community.'

We asked the stadium management company to put out announcements after half-time, but people didn't hear them due to the volume of the crowd. We also asked them to put the announcements on the overhead system.'

There has been no official comment from The Liberty Stadium.

I think the police should have put an announcement during the game to let the fans know what was going on and some of the trouble could have been avoided.
