'If It's Football, It's Vital'

De Vries Offers Bodde Full Support

Ferrie Bodde saw red for the second time in his Swansea City career on Saturday. This has not stopped Dutch keeper Dorus De Vries rallying behind the midfielder.

Bodde was dismissed from the field of play after under fire referee Andre Marriner had adjudged his tackle on Johnathon Hawson was enough to warrant a straight red card.

The midfielder was to serve a one match ban against Havant and Waterlooville after picking up his 5 yellow card against Southend.

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez will have to await the FAW's judgement on how many games the highly influential midfeidler will serve through suspention. It is thought that he will miss a 4 games although it is not certain if the club will appeal Andre Mariner's decision.

Dorus De Vries has come out in supporting Bodde and insists the former Den Hagg player isn't a dirty player and has leveled criticism on the Leeds United squad for interfering with the decision.

The dismissal could have proved a vital turning point Leeds United as they tried to stage a comeback but it only served to galvanise a resilient Swansea outfit.

The home side hung on for a vital 3 points which saw Swansea go 5 points clear of 2nd placed Nottingham forest who were beaten by Gilligham 3-0 at Preistfeild.

De Vries Told The Evening Post

'''But I can only remember him getting sent off once in Holland and he is not dirty.'

'I think maybe referees see one action by a player and then get into their heads that he is a nutter.'

'And it didn't help either that the Leeds players were straight into the referee's face after the challenge.'

'I think the referee might have reacted to that because straightaway I didn't think it was a red card.'

There have been a lot of two-footed tackles on the telly lately, but this wasn't one of them.

'Ferrie only went in with one leg and he is gutted to have been sent off again, especially in such a big game where there was so much at stake.''

Martinez will hope that Swansea can claim another 3 points tomorrow as they face Swindon Town at the County ground.
