Downing Heaps Praise On Swansea

Cheltenham Town manager Keith Downing has heaped praise on Swansea City and in 90 minutes saw his side taught a lesson in football following their 4-1 loss to the new leauge leaders.

Dowling saw his depleted squad caught cold with a Andy Robinson brace after 18 minutes. The scouser had latched on to Paul Anderson's well flighted cross to open the scoring for the in form Liberty Stadium outfit. He was to make it 2-0 just over two minutes later following some fine work by Ferrie Bodde. The former Den Hagg man offloaded the ball to Robinson who sent a curling shot into the top left hand corner well past Shane Higgs in the visitors goal.

Cheltenham's problems went from bad to worse two minutes after the restart when Leon Britton sent a cutting ball through the congested Cheltenham area to Bodde streaming in from midfield who fired it into the bottom left hand corner to make it 3-0.

It was to be substitute Jason Scotland who killed of any chance of a come back for the Gloucestershire side after finding space behind the visitors defence and dispatching a powerful strike past Higgs.

It was another substitute who was to get his name on the score sheet as Steven Gillespie's sensational overhead kick secured a consolation goal for the Whaddon Road outfit.

Downing was left under no illusions that Swansea were the better side and proclaimed that the Swans are the best side that they have faced so far this term.

He Spoke on The Robins offical site:

"'Swansea are a very good side, the best we've played. I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get near enough to people but you have to give them credit. Their passing and movement was as good as I've seen at this level in the three or four years I've been here. We want to stay at this level and do as well as we can so we can only learn from games like that. We kept going as we always do but it was an education to play against that."

Roberto Martinez will be brimming with confidence as a crunch game against Leeds United on Saturday looms large..
