Swans Clash With Carlisle Postponed

Swansea's top of the table clash with Carlisle United at Brunton Park has been postponed due to a frozen pitch at the Cumbrian club.

A pitch inspection was carried out by referee Uriah Rennie into the feasibility of the clash going ahead.

The Ground Staff at Brunton Park had installed heaters to thaw the pitch and covered the playing surface with covers to protect it from the freezing conditions in the North West of England.

Within the last few minutes the game has been postponed despite mammoth attempts by Stadium manager Dave Michelle and his team to get the game to go ahead

Managing Director John Nixon was left disappointed at the decision but has praised his staff for their efforts.

He Spoke on Carlisle United's Official Site:

"Dave Mitchell and his team have had the pitch covered all week and have been closely monitoring the situation on a daily basis. However, we've found that, as soon as any kind of progress has been made, the temperature has dropped and that has made things very difficult for us again."

We tried to apply heat this morning, using industrial heaters," he said, "but the frost has bitten deep, and there are still areas of the pitch that are very, very hard underfoot. It goes without saying that we are extremely disappointed about this outcome. We've done everything we can but, unfortunately, the cold weather has beaten us in the end."

Roberto Martinez will not focus his squad on the Boxing Day clash at The Liberty Stadium against Cheltenham Town fc.

Good to see an early decision made. 3 points a must on Boxing Day after the extra rest the players will have had.
