Martinez Will Not Rush Into Market

Roberto Martinez will not rush into making any signings come the reopening of transfer window on the 1st January.

This comes after the news that transfer target Warren Feeney was told of a 3 month injury lay off after sustaining ankle ligament damage against Southend United.

The Spanish tactican has been a very shrewed dealer in the transfer market after the bargain prices that secured the services of Angel Rangel , Ferrie Bodde and Jason Scotland.

It is that policy of low budget signings that has put the Liberty Stadium outfit at the top of the league one on a more sustainable budget.

His only major expediture was the £200,000 signing of Darryl Duffy from Hull City after one of the most gripping transfer saga's of the clubs history.

Martinez has been quick to point out despite a striker shortage after Warren Feeney's return to Cardiff City and the ever pressing need to sign another defender he will not be rushed to make any signings in the transfer window.

He told Sky Sports:

'I'm not distracted by deadlines and windows. At the moment we've got a very exciting group of players and they are hungry to play football games and that is our starting point.'

If we can bring someone in, it will have to be someone who is better than what we've already got. We are not going to bring people in for the sake of it but we are keeping an eye on all the possible players that could improve us alongside the players that we've got.'

This is a very competitive league and the difference between the sides is minimal and what we need to do is improve on a daily basis.'

Not just in the playing staff but in every department of the football club and we want to carry on doing it. If they carry on doing what they have to do it will be very hard for someone to come in and improve the standard.'

One thing the Spanish manager can expect is the return of Darren Way from his successful loan spell at Yeovil Town.

I'll be dissapointed if there's no new signings in January. I can't argue with the above but we need cover for Feeney plus a defender.

We definately need to sign somebody but Martinez has proved that looking around is better than just signing. Recently we have had Pav Abbot who was a KJ "panic" buy and he played very little and only scored one goal, the same could be said for Duffy this season but at least Martinez looked at him first and he did play well last season, he just hasn't had the luck this season.
