Feeney Dealt Huge Injury Blow

Swansea City's quest to sign former loanee Warren Feeney has suffered a set back as the Northern Ireland international was diagnosed with ruptured Ankle ligament damage.

The striker sustained the injury in the 3-0 win over Southend United on Saturday after Shrimpers defender Lewis Taylor caught Feeney awkwardly on his ankle.

The player has returned to home club Cardiff City to start his long journey back to fitness.

In the meantime Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has given the player a much needed boost ;After stating his intentions to sign the the former Bournmouth player on a permanent deal.

Feeney's loan spell has been a successful one and has played a pivotal role in the clubs recent success that has seen the club sit on top of league one.

Martinez had highlighted that his decision to build a large squad has been vindicated in his post match comments following the strikers prognosis.

He told The Evening Post:

' 'The situation does not change at all with Warren.'

Warren's injury, when I saw it, I thought would be a bad one. We have found no bone fracture, which is good, but he could still be out for anything between seven to 13 weeks.'

Nothing has changed in my mind. The plan was to do a deal with Cardiff but the big issue is his situation at Cardiff.'

The attitude and way that he has conducted himself since the day he signed here means that he deserves another opportunity with us. That opportunity can't be destroyed by this injury.''

Martinez now faces the prospect of having two first choice strikers out of the top of the table clash against Carlisle United on Saturday afternoon.
